I'm Baaaack! Naturepedic EOS Classic or Pillowtop vs Vispring Coronet

congrats! so is firm/medium a “firm”?

mine is plush coils and medium microcoils which i think is their “medium” and medium/soft is their “cushion firm”?

Soft/medium/firm in their Pillowtop is their Cushion Firm

All the rest of my Naturepedic stuff arrived today. I really like it so far. On the bed right now I have the extra firm coils with the medium microcoils. Bed sleeps exceptionally cool which I love. On my patio I have the firm support coils & 8" quantum edge elite bolsa coils so I’m going to be trying the bed a few different ways. It is quite firm in it’s current configuration but I do like it and my back is not overarching at all on my stomach. I’m also going to try putting my saatva latex topper over it to soften it a little. The saatva is 100% natural talalay 1.5" thick from talalay global N1 saatva said 12-16 ILD. I also have another set of medium microcoils I can try on top of the other microcoils inside a 15" zippered cover I have. And I have convoluted toppers from cozy pure/ the lanoodle cozy top, I have the birch topper, I have a 50k super soft 100% natural talalay topper from vita talalay/ radium 2" thick I can try on top of or in the mattress depending on which thickness cover I use and more! So I have a lot of testing to do lol!

Mr. Yabo,
You are a true mattress connoisseur. Have fun!

Thanks Marshmallowforme

Sooooo… We finally got around to getting back to the store. My wife and I have different needs, as I previously outlined.

First, the shop set up the two sides of the Pillowtop for my wife. From top to bottom, med/med/firm on one side, med/firm/firm on the other. She sleeps mostly on her back, and a bit on her sides and a some on her stomach. She opted for the med/med/firm.

For me, they set up soft/med/firm on one side, and soft/med/plush on the other. Interestingly, pressing on the firm and plush coils themselves, I discovered that there’s not a ton of difference between the two.

As I’m almost purely a side sleeper, I needed the softer top layer for my shoulder. In the end, the plush bottom layer made my body feel a bit more like there was nothing beneath me. I felt the least amount of pressure, while I still felt like my body was aligned.

Ultimately, at this point, I’ll be able to try it for an extended period at home. This particular store allows up to one year to swap out layers.

Congratulations on finding something that works. It is very nice that they give you a whole year. I found the 90 days much too short when you needed to swap layers. Luckily Naturepedic gave me an extension but since I’m only 6 months in with my final configuration I would have loved a whole year.

I also found it hard to tell the Plush and Firm coils apart by just pushing my hand on them. I had to feel through the fabric to see which was thicker. However I could definitely feel the difference when laying on them.

Hopefully I have found something. The proof of this pudding will be in the sleeping. And in the many nights of it.

I definitely could feel the difference between the two sets of coils, but that difference’s effect was more apparent when lying on them. They’ll swap out the coils, if need be.

I’m still waiting on the delivery of the mattress. My dealer told me that Naturepedic ran out of latex supplies to make their bed. They offered the dealer microcoils instead. My dealer thought that was a silly thing to offer since the customers specifically chose specific materials to comprise their mattress. The customers would have to have their stuff swapped out all over again. So, the wait is on for Naturepedic to get latex in to make the mattresses.

I really love the naturepedic eos with microcoils. My only issue is as Marshmallowforme noted in a previous post the beds do run short. When I have the mattress flat it’s not an issue but once I raise my adjustable base it definitely becomes an issue especially since I’m 6ft. My feet hang over the edge of the bed too much and it’s just not comfortable. Too bad great bed, supportive sleeps cool. Maybe they could make a twin extra long, extra long… which is supposed to be 84" but naturepedic would prob have it com in at 80" which woul be great lol! Twin extra long, extra longs are rare but I’ve seen them.

Mr Yabo,
Sorry to hear you got a short one also. It took a while but I finally got used to a short mattress.

We recently rotated our mattress for the first time. Much to my surprise the edge support is on the unmarked side. We set up the mattress according to instructions so I thought the edge support was just obscured by two layer of microcoils. As a result I was really surprise to find the edge support was great on the side that wasn’t supposed to have any. Deauxcv also had this on his mattress so yours might also.

i’m shocked by your and marshmallow’s experience with too short a mattress? i have a king which is two xl twin insides and it’s perfect king size. i don’t mean to challenge either of your experience, or at least not in a rude way, but are you sure you’re fully extending everything? the case and innards both have lots of give to either compress or extend a few/several inches by shaking and tugging (or pushing) when laying out? are you both on adjustable frames? is it possible that that’s compressing things but not stretching them back out when extended? and yes, in ref to marshmallows comment about perimeter marking being on wrong on one side so my stiff perimeter edge was in the center instead of outer edge causing a hump in the middle.

Short mattressed? That’s strange.

In any event, Natureped apparently has their latex restocked so they can make their mattresses again. I’ll report back after I get it.

I take it that there’s no normal way of turning or flipping this mattress. I would think that it doesn’t theoretically hold up as long (with each side being different)?

you can, and i do… flip top layer any which way. the top layer has no directionality. i flip and spin them a couple times a year. the casement, i also rotate yearly. the support springs do have directionality but you can spin the 2 sides as a whole 180, or flip them head to toe. you just cant flip a single one in place. there is a brown edging on the support layer’s cover that is supposed to indicate the side that has the stiffer edge. but as you’ve read, they have more than once been put on in reverse.

I agree with the salesperson. I tried this configuration (Firm Base Coil, Medium Micro-coil, Medium Micro-coil) and found it strangely firm and overly soft at the same time. To me it feel like the microcoil isn’t properly supported on other coils. I think the micro-coils work better with a more uniform base, like latex.

Empusa and others who are testing out Naturepedic - I am in the same boat. I had not thought of doing what empusa said: " think the micro-coils work better with a more uniform base, like latex." Have you or anyone else tried that? Where I am at is we have been sleeping on Plush/Medium micro/Soft micro PLUS another soft Latex layer on top (just ordered an extra set of layers so we have 4 to play with. (Plush/soft/soft micro was too unsupportive for me.) It’s ok, pretty bouncy feel, not conforming, but does feel nice. However, temperature is a problem for me with latex on top. I’m sleeping warm, not unbearable, but enough where it disrupts sleep. So we’ve taken off the latex layer on my side. The all coils sleeps so wonderfully cool. Pressure relief is OK but I’m not over-impressed. The Charles P Rogers was better for back sleeping, imo, and felt more contoured and supportive, but I realize that is an apples-to-oranges comparison since CPR has latex inside instead of all innerspring. I will try shifting the latex to the lower layer with the microcoils on top and see if that makes a difference. We’re also going to try my husband’s side with the Plush base and 2 layers of latex for him, which I understand is the traditional EOS pillowtop configuration…

Also, FYI, I asked Naturepedic about the custom order (" I noticed on the ordering page for the EOS it mentions a “blended latex-coil” configuration you have to call about - is this simply talking about layering those different layers on top or is it a special order layer that mixes the two?"). This is what they said: “The configuration you are referring to is a coil support layer with latex comfort layers as opposed to both comfort and support layers being coil.”

Yes, I think that’s the case. That said, after sleeping on the medium microcoils (on top) for a few weeks, I reverted back to the latex over latex (bottom to top: med/med and firm/med). The jury is still out, as I’ve been suffering from some pretty bad lower back pain, since I tried the med/plush. I woke up with severe back pain, after I turned onto my stomach, during sleep.

The firmer layers do help, but significant lower back pain persists. I just think that this mattress is better suited for side sleeping. I suspect that the 6 inches of latex over the non-zoned coils allows my hips to sink just enough to cause pain, even though I’m only 120 lbs.

In practice it’s any combination of micro-coil and latex.

Me too. My king is correctly (standard king) sized.
