how’s your new mattress?
I’ve had two nights on it so far and it’s very different to my last tired old tempurpedic mattress, in a good way.
Weirdly, the new mattress smells slightly of a farm/straw, but I think that could be the wool they use in the very top layer and I expect that to go away soon, as it’s quite a faint smell.
I simply love the way it hugs my body when i’m lying on my back. I’ve got a plush section to swap out for the soft one in my shoulder area and next weekend i’m going to do that and see how it feels with the added softness. It’s supremely comfortable and i’ve had two fantastic nights’ sleep. Definitely the best bed i’ve slept on in a great many years.
The things I don’t like are that there is no edge support at all. You sink down at an angle when sitting on the edge of the bed, and lying near the edge of the bed feels more precarious than our last mattress, but we have a California King, so it’s not really a problem as we both sleep away from the edge.
The motion transfer is not as good as our tempurpedic but it’s still not dreadful at all. When my wife turns over I can definitely feel it more than my last mattress but neither of us has been woken due to the other shifting in the night, so that doesn’t really bother me either.
Overall for the less than $4k price tag for a Cal King, this is an incredible mattress and i’m very happy with it overall. I’d like to spend a month or two dialing in the various Vzone layers to get the optimal sleeping firmness for my shoulders and hips. That’s the beauty of this mattress though; you can actually do that, unlike almost any other mattress from any other manufacturer.
If you are on the fence about this, know that the closest mattress match we could find is the King Koil Purebliss Genesis, and that retails for several thousand dollars more than the Flobeds, doesn’t have any of the configurable zones, but does give you the approximate feeling of what it would be like sleeping on Talalay late Flobeds Vzone.
For my injuries, I very much doubt i’m going to find a better mattress unless I start spending at the very least two times more than the Flobeds Vzone. The King Koil for instance was nearly $10,000 and I still think the Flobeds was better.
Of course, your mileage may vary.
Damien,
Thanks! That is the authentic review of the Flobeds VZone that I have ever read.
Most reviews say “Best mattress ever” or “Should bought this sooner” The reviews dont give much detail.
Can you elaborate more about the wool cover? Im not actually a fan of wool. I find wool scratchy. Do you find the wool cover scratchy? I think the other option is cotton/vegan. Im not vegan, but I do like cotton.
How do you compare King Koil Genesis (synthetic talalay) compare to Flobeds natural talalay?
John
I’m happy you found a mattress that’s comfortable. Sleep is so important.
A week now. Sleep has been fantastic and the smell has gone.
In answer to above, the wool is definitely not scratchy. I think it’s a blend of wool and something else, but it’s on the inside of the top cover, not the outside. The outside is a soft cloth of some kind and definitely not scratchy…
The motion transfer is my biggest issue and it will take some getting used to. My wife has been waking me up getting out of bed in the morning (she gets up for work before I do) but I expect I will get used to it as I get used to the bed.
But, it is true to say the mattress has not ‘bedded’ in yet (pun intended) and it will settle and become more comfortable over the first month of use.
I am going to swap out the soft zone with the plush zone (the softest latex Flobeds offer) that the kind folks at Flobeds added to my order free-of-charge (over and above the call of duty, thanks) this weekend to see if that helps my shoulder even more.
Still very happy with the mattress and my wife adores it and doesn’t want to get out!
Hello It’s been a long time and now its almost end 2024 .
What was your exprience with that mattress Im planning to buy one
The link is one to a winkbed mattress, not saatva.
so sorry but thats the winkbed, actually we are testing two mattresses.
If you are accustomed to the adaptive feel of the Tempurpedic I think you would be very happy on latex. Sixteen years is about how long our Tempurpedic lasted, and by then the models and feel had changed and the price had doubled. After trying what my husband considered “the easy way out” - a traditional mattress purchased locally, we spent two uncomfortable years. For the last week I have been sleeping on what I SHOULD have been all that time - 100% latex. Less expensive (especially when DIY), no chemicals, long lasting. I did DIY with components from Latex Mattress Factory. It’s a little more stressful to try to get it right without having to ship back layers, but it is worth it to get exactly what you each are most comfortable with. Experts there can make recommendations based on their knowledge base and you can read experiences on this forum of people with a similar build, physical issues, etc.
To reduce shoulder and back pain, it is better to choose a mattress of medium firmness. Shape memory foam or latex models are optimal, as they adapt to the body and support the spine. Hybrid mattresses (springs + foam) are also suitable. Orthopaedic mattresses are useful for chronic pain. It is important to choose models with proper spinal alignment and zonal support.
