1 inch Dunlop as comfort?

Ok TMU brains, this is my set up and background story.

I’m 6’2" 185 side sleeper, wife is 135 5’2" side/back.

Got nine inches of Dunlop from @Sleeponlatex in 3 inch layers and played with combos, ended up both realizing we prefer firmer and we returned/exchanged some layers. After playing around to find our best PPP we settled at:
Her side, bottom to top: (medium/firm/firm) we put medium on bottom only because we had run out of firm layers. This was good for her, initially she said could wish it firmer, but it’s been 3 months she’s ok, though she had hip pain 2 weeks ago I thought maybe not enough pressure relief but it’s fine for now.
I’m the issue: still having sagging, low back pain in mornings I think due to not enough support but could be hip rotation. Most days I have it some days I’m fine.
My setup for a few months is (medium/firm/vzone). I had switched out a Dunlop layer for @FloBeds firm v-zone layer in talalay, and I think it’s been great because I put soft at shoulder, x-firm at lumbar, and firm at hips and it’s good, except still I get low back pain.

So wife went on a trip and I took the opportunity to try new combos. First I tried: firm/vzone/medium: too saggy, pressure relief fine, I kind of liked the vzone firmness changes being less pronounced. Then I tried: stealing one of her firm layers so now I have (firm/firm/v-zone) and what a difference in support! I woke up very excited about this.

I love the support but I’m not sure yet how I feel about pressure relief- it’s a tad less, a little too much pressure. I know I have to keep trying this set up to really get a feel for it but wife comes back soon and she’ll want her layers back!

So ideas I had:
A) get another firm from SOL to replace the one I stole. But what if I need more pressure relief? What if she does too?

B) get 3 inches of x-firm talalay to try as my middle layer or as her top layer. I think x-firm talalay will feel same deflection as firm Dunlop, but all I’m comparing is the latex I have from SoL and Flobeds. Hard to compare with @Expert-SleepEz for example since could be different ILDs. Thoughts? I’ve heard sleep on latex is firmer than other brands. How does sleepez talalay compare to other brands like Flobeds?

C) I give her back the firm layer I stole and I purchase one inch Dunlop and 2 inches of dunlop, probably both in firm or maybe one inch in medium firmness, and I sandwich my vzone between them ,1 inch on top, 2 inches underneath). (I think only sleep on latex offers one inch Dunlop and I reached out to Sleepez and they don’t sell one inch talalay.) So my second question is how does one inch Dunlop feel on top of 3 inches of talalay vzone? Is medium one inch softer than medium 3 inches? Is it just gonna cause more sagging? Is it going to be wavy over the v-zone components?
Thx in advance!

Let me try clarifying my questions just trying to eliminate possibilities:

Is there anything denser/firmer than firm Dunlop from SoL as a button support layer?

Would an extra firm talalay layer in the middle layer perform similar to a firm Dunlop from sleep on latex, or would it help pressure relief, or cause more sagging, or hard to say?

SoL seems like the only ones who sell 1 inch thick Dunlop. At one inch, does performance change? Can you tell one inch Dunlop from one inch talalay? With one inch, if using as a top layer, does soft become meaningless, and medium becomes the new soft? Would a firm one inch Dunlop on top of my talalay vzone be uncomfortable?

I’m asking because curious, I may purchase 2 inch x-firm talalay and 1 inch medium or firm Dunlop because I can think of numerous ways I could try using them in my 9 inch set up.

Thanks

Hi Psychmedic.

The firmest ILD Dunlop you can find is going to be the firmest you can get in terms of latex.

If you want firmer, you would need to start looking into polyfoams.

Yes. I think your wife would notice the difference a bit more as she’s smaller/lighter and isn’t going to sink into it as deeply but 1" can definitely change the feel.

That’s subjective, but I can’t think of a reason why it would be off the top of my head.

Depends where you’re putting it.

What’s your current proposed set up?

NikkiTMU

My current set up is:

1 in medium Dunlop SoL
3 inch vzone talalay from flobeds, with soft at shoulder, x-firm lumbar, firm hip
2 inch firm Dunlop Sleepez
3 inch firm Dunlop SoL

All over coconut coir and a bed frame with the right slats.

The sleepez firm is noticeably less dense than firm sleeponlatex.

In this set up, there it still sometimes low back pain from hips sinking in too much, but it’s the best set up so far, earlier set ups not supportive enough, too much hammocking. The one inch medium on top works to smoothe out the vzone transitions but that’s about it, I wonder if I should’ve gotten a one inch firm

If I do:
3 inch vzone
3 inch firm SoL
3 inch firm SoL

Then it solves my hammock low back pain issue but it’s a little too much pressure on shoulder and hips, and I feel the lumbar vzone transitions too strongly when it’s at top.

I’m going to try firming up the vzone hips to an x-firm and not change anything else and see if that helps with alignment without too much pressure points.
