Hello, I’ve decided I want to buy a latex online, but am having trouble making some decisions.
I’m about 6 ft tall and weigh 175lbs. I am looking for a mattress that is both supportive and comfortable. For the last 15 years I’ve slept on an old spring mattress with a crappy foam topper. I do enjoy the comfort of the foam topper. I don’t need to sink entirely into the bed, but I would still like to feel comfy. This is a bit of a concern of mine with latex. I don’t want to feel like I’m sleeping on a board, but also want a bed that won’t worsen my minor lower back pain (most of this I’m sure is from sleeping on my stomach at times, I’m trying to correct that habit now).
I’ve heard good things about sleep ez and was considering their Roma mattress. I’ve called and spoken with one of their sales reps and they seemed to think there wasn’t any advantage of buying a custom over the Roma unless I was planning on changing things up. Assuming I’m comfortable with the Roma, I wouldn’t be changing any layers so this seemed fine. Can you think of any other advantages of saving up extra for the custom built sleep ez? Would there be any benefit of the extra layers?
I’ve also read good things about the dream foam latex mattresses so I’ve recently started to look into those as well. I’m also open to hearing about any other mattress suggestions.
Thank you very much for your inquiry. You are definitely on the right track in choosing a latex mattress. As long as you choose the right combination, you can achieve both contour and support all within the same mattress.
The Roma mattress is a nice combination of contour and support. The 1.5" of Certipur soft foam quilted into the cover provides the contour, while the 6" Dunlop core (3" medium seamed to a 3" firm) provides the support. This mattress does give you an option of a medium plush or a firm plush feel, by flipping the mattress from one side to another.
The Roma is a bit different than that of the layered models due to the simple fact that you can customize the layered models, and can reconfigure if your initial combination is not what you needed. SleepEZ also offers a 90-day comfort exchange for their layered models. This takes all the risk out of purchasing a mattress sight unseen. This would be the major difference between it and the Roma.
Based on the fact that you like the feel of a latex topper, I would maybe recommend looking into a 10" (3-layer) model, but ordering it as a 7" mattress with a 3" topper on top. SleepEZ will not charge any extra when ordering it this way. This will give you the ability to customize the bottom two layers inside the mattress cover, while still having that nice topper feel on top. Should you choose this route, you will still be given the standard 90-day comfort exchange with all layers involved, including your topper if need be.
I will be happy to give you some feedback on a Dream Foam mattress, however I will need to know which model(s) you are interested in to give you a more detailed response.
We look forward to hearing your feedback. Thank you, and good luck!!
From what I’ve read, I’ll probably like talalay better than the dunlop in the Roma, but it’s hard to say as I haven’t had a chance to try them yet
Are there any advantages in the quality of materials for upgrading to the dreamfoam above or a three layer sleep ez? I’m really trying to keep my entire purchase cost below $1000 between the bed and the frame. With that being said, I would go well over budget if I was sure there would be significant comfort/support advantages of paying a bit more.
If there are no serious material differences between the Roma and the three layer I might just roll the dice on it, but I’m still afraid it will be too firm even on the medium plush side (if that’s the case, I’ll tough it out)
Based on what I read about the Dreamfoam mattress in the link you kindly provided above, this particular model consists of a 6" core (firm or medium), and a 3" comfort layer on top. The info on this page states that you can exchange your top comfort layer for a firmer or softer layer, should your initial layer be too soft or too firm. I could not see any info on how many exchanges are allowed. I will have to assume (without knowing for sure) you are allowed one exchange.
The 10" SleepEZ model consists of three 3" layers of latex. You can choose Talalay or Dunlop latex as well as densities for each layer. This gives you control over all comfort options by being able to not only access all three layers inside the mattress, but rearranging them if need be to change the feel. SleepEZ offers a 90-day exchange policy for all three layers, and you can exchange as many times as needed. This would be the main difference I can see between these two mattress models.
Please keep us posted as to which mattress you decide to go with! Good luck.
Congrats on the purchase of your Roma mattress! I am confident that you will find this mattress to be very comfortable!
When choosing a mattress protector for a latex mattress, selecting one that won’t change the feel of the mattress is important. Non-padded protectors are ideal for latex mattresses because they don’t change the comfort level on the surface of your mattress. SleepEZ offers two non-padded protectors, both are waterproof. We offer a cotton protector, and a wool protector. You can find them on SleepEZ’s website here: https://www.sleepez.com/collections/mattress-protectors.
Thanks again for the update! And please keep us updated with your Roma experience. Congrats again!
