Hi,
This forum helped so much with our home mattress that I thought I would ask for advice for our camper van. It has a fold down sofa that seems fairly comfortable at first, but both my husband and I wake up several times per night with hip pain (side sleepers…well side sleeping is the only way two people fit on it, lol). I had some cheaper memory foam toppers I threw on it to try (I stacked a couple for about a 3" height) but we still couldn’t get comfortable. Would a better topper possibly help or do we need maybe a soft layer on top of a firmer layer? We could also put a short queen mattress on top of the sofa bed as we can leave it down for longer trips, we really don’t use it as a sofa generally. It would have to be a 6 or 8 inch mattress due to height limitations. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Karen
Hi KAycee22.
When you slept on the sofa bed with the memory foam, what was your experience? Was it still hip pain, or was it something else?
I’m wondering if a 2" transition med/medium-firm layer with a 2" (or 3") softer topper wouldn’t help. Of course, if you’re sinking all the way through and still finding it too firm, then maybe a low mattress would be the way to go.
Or if you’d prefer to look into an RV mattress, I know Latex Mattress Factory makes a short queen RV mattress and Magic Sleeper has RV mattresses available as well.
I hope this helps!

Hi Nikki, yes with the memory foam topper we still had hip pain sleeping on our side. Thanks for the suggestion on doing a two layer foam, that makes sense. Does anyone you know of sell that type of topper, or would I just need to be two pieces of foam and a cover and put it together? I’ll also look at the Rv mattresses. Thanks for the info!

Just following up on the suggestion to get 2" transitional foam plus a topper…when would I be able to buy a piece of transitional foam? Any recommendations as to type or density? Toppers I can find and I have a cover I can put it all in. Or does someone make a combo like this? 4-5" total would fit better than a full mattress so I like that idea.
Thanks!
Hi Karen.
A number of our Trusted Members sell latex cuts ranging from 2 - 6" and DIY Natural Bedding actually does custom cuts. Because your needs are so specific, a DIY is a good direction to consider. Ken at Arizona Premium might be an excellent resource for you as well.
