Thanks to this forum, after years of experimentation, I finally managed to discover my dream configuration for a comfortable latex mattress.
I have three 3" latex layers (Extra Firm Dunlop, Med Dunlop, Firm Dunlop, in this order, top to bottom) currently in a 12" cover. I also have a Sleep and Beyond Wool my mattress pad on top. (I removed a top soft 2" Talalay layer and really liked the firmness). I want to increase the firmness by adding another 1" of wool/cotton quilt. I want to replicate sleeping on the floor on a Japanese futon style firmness. I don’t like to sink inside but sleep on top of my mattress.
I am thinking of getting a similar brand 9" wool organic cotton cover to fit the three 3" layers and then place the mattress inside the existing 12" cover? Will it fit? I am not worried about the height since I have room, but the width? Will it “Taco” in shape and defeat the purpose. Maybe there is little stretch in side fabric to accomodate this, Or do you suggest I get a separate (custom made) wool cotton quilt (60X80 size) and simply place it under existing cover instead of buying a whole new cover? Or just stuff the wool layer from a new 360 zippered cover under the existing cover and not use the bottom portion of the cover.
Any input from experienced DIY’s appreciated.
TL;DR. Want to add TWO laters of organic cotton and wool cover on top of Latex layer. Solution: Buy an additional cover or a quilt?
