Cloning a Kingsdown

I think I finally found the feel I’m looking for in a King Kingsdown Crown imperial plush pillowtop. So naturally I’m trying find a better alternative because of the pricepoint, strange stitching, comfort after break in, and (less importantly) durability. I’m hoping someone might be able to give me some recommendations? I’m also tempted to DIY, but theres just so many factors and with how gobsmackedly complex the Kingsdown’s layering is, so I’m not sure how to clone/improve it despite pouring through the Underground the past several days.

I had wanted to try a bed with more latex in it but they seem to be unobtainium here (Minneapolis), the Kingsdown was the only latex I’ve found. The plushness and responsiveness compared to memoryfoam has been a big draw for me. I love to sink in but without the delay of memoryfoam or the heat retention since I run very hot.

I’m 6’ 160lbs back sleeper but out of necessity. I love to side sleep but its led to tendonitis in both shoulders. But now that I’m on my back I’ve started to have lower back pain unless I stay perfectly still the whole night. I’ve learned that my legs and shoulders need to be at least slightly above my hips to stop the pain.

I like the idea of an all latex setup but I’ve never experience one so I am concerned it won’t be what I want and isn’t the reason why I liked the Kingsdown.

So can you help me find a bed?

Hi there TwiggyDaniels,
Welcome to the community and the Mattress UnderGround.

Rather than go into a detailed comparison. I quickly found a few mattresses that are more favorably priced and in almost all cases a step up on the mattress food chain. I am not a big fan of MF, their trials, return, refund and restocking policies have been sketchy, get it all in writing before you give them your credit card!

At the price point you are looking at, I would offer that there are quite a few mattresses you might consider.

Take a peek at these, the closest is Beloit, but it is a 4hour drive potentially form Minneapolis.

@Maverick looks like a great list! @TwiggyDaniels feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions on our Duo Latex (I agree with Norm in that being our best option for you).
