Looking for a non latex mattress (I have a love/hate relationship with my current bed and will keep it regardless, but want something else now)
Went to “try, feel, explore” in a few stores to see what’s doing in the mattress world right now. The only problem is that I found a mattress that is the best thing I’ve EVER rested on in my life (not exaggerating). Never felt so balanced and at ease before. Tried it in a couple different stores to be sure. What sucks is that it’s expensive and an S brand so I am super concerned about it failing within a year. It’s the latest from Simmons, maybe they improved on it “some”, but reviews on other mattresses by them freak me out. It “could” be worth the extra money if I knew it was going to last a few years. I have been having serious pain issues with my current set up and am tired of the pushback all night of latex (that’s a whole other story!) Anyway, I’m back here to see what feedback I can get on these specs and also if there is something anyone has as a suggestion to look that could be close with a better company behind it? (if it matters f, 5ft, 165 and losing weight, chronic low back injury issues for 30+ yrs, side sleeper)

Sorry to hear of your ‘love/hate’ relationship with your current latex mattress, which you say is causing you serious pain with your chronic back issues. Its’ great you have found a mattress you find to be an excellent fit - remember the mattress you choose will be unique to you, based on your stats(height, BMI, sleeping position(s) and any health conditions) along with your PPP(posture and alignment, pressure relief and personal preferences). Likewise, I would not put too much stock in any reviews you see online, as they are highly subjective and generally not very useful. The important thing is that you have found this Simmons mattress to be ‘the best thing you have ever rested on in your entire life’, which is better than any review! You have chronic back pain, so you know the importance of finding a mattress which is comfortable yet supports your own posture and alignment to avoid excessive pain on waking.(you can also do a forum searchon Simmons to see other consumers experiences).

This cover should provide adequate airflow and no allergens if that is a concern of yours. ‘plant based cooling technology’ simply refers to a material such as coconut coir which allows airflow and breathability.
In general, you want to avoid anything over a few inches of memory foam with a density under 4lb/cuft, as a surfeit of less dense inexpensive foam can break down more quickly and can leave depressions or ‘divots’ that might exacerbate your back pain and leave you with an uncomfortable sleeping experience(you can take a look atmattress durability guidelines here as well as the mattress specifications you need to know .The memory and high density foams listed are, as common with the ‘big box’ brands, of unknown composition. However, the important thing is that you find them very comfortable…the 1" natural fiber layer will provide air circulation, and the latex layer is of a quite ‘plush’ comfort level which many side sleepers find comfortable.
The bottom foam layer provides a base for the foundation; The specs for the pocket coils are fine, there is an edge support system and seems adequate for sleepers who prefer a coil base…zoning in the coil layer is not needed by most sleepers, though some do find it more comfortable. The gauge and number of coils you provide are fine for a stable support and foundation for your mattress
In general, as with many retail brand mattresses this will likely not hold up over the long run compared to a latex mattress or memory foam/hybrid with higher quality materials, but again, you find this to be a good match, and that’s an important factor. Could I get a breakdown of the mattress below too, is it better or worse in quality materials to the BR? I am still searching around for local/online mattresses too, so haven’t ruled anything out. Aireloom (and E.S. Kluft) are private ownership and tend to not be so transparent so great job on finding the layer densities and construction. I am not sure which model you tried. (perhaps you can identify it on their Aireloom site) but the Aireloom appears to be a tufted pillowtop mattress; While the Pocket coils would not raise any flags in terms of durability there are a few cons that I’d keep in mind. The major difference of Aireloom over the previous Beautyrest is the added layers of 19 ILD Talalay latex, which have greater durability than memory foams.The memory foam and polyfoam content in the Aireloom are a red flag at your current 32.2 kg/m2 BMI. There are in total 4 inches of soy-based foam of lower density for your BMI along with another half inch of memory foam. As previously noted, more than an inch or so of memory foam of under 4lbs/cuft and polyurethane foam of less 1.8lbs/cuft will prematurely ‘break down’ which can cause alignment issues and pain (you can see some comments regarding this inpost #7 here)
The Latex layers are 2" and are of a softer ‘plush’ 19 ILD (which if they would be closer to the surface at your BMI would break down faster than for a normal BMI individual)…Latex would provide adequate cooling air circulation with the quilted cover and the cotton backing on the soy foam layer also allows some air circulation, but again the “ventilation” effect diminishes the further away the layer is from the sleeping surface. The latex is between layers of foam, so the durability will not really affect the longevity of this mattress as much as the other foams will adversely affect it. As with the Beautyrest, the innerspring rarely is an issue in terms of durability. You can see a discussion of another Aireloom mattress in This post as well.
Remember, along with the mattress longevity what’s most important here is how you feel when testing the mattress (if possible). To summarize it… like the Beautyrest, the Aireloom mattress has some lower-density foams for your current BMI; since you are ‘worried about longevity’ you may want to think twice as it is not worth spending the time testing something that is most likely to lose its properties over time. Caveat emptor ‘let the buyer beware’ on each of these offerings.
Thank you once again!! This is a Jordan’s furniture Aireloom (I think it may be from the Aireloom Preferred line, Luxetop M1 Plush. They have their own name of course. Jordan’s is great about listing as much info as they can on mattresses. I’m still shopping around though.
Anyway, taking your comments into consideration, another great incentive to get these pounds off my body immediately, LOL!

As per previous, the possible issue with this is the amount of memory foam, depending on how long you want your new mattress to last; while a lower BMI will slightly lessen the amount of ‘breakdown’ in the foams, they will still not last as long over time. The main factor is how comfortable you are with it.
Hello can’tsleep. Can you please tell me how you were able to find the specs for the aireloom? I’m looking at replicating this mattress for my wife (who we utterly failed with latex over the years) with an innerspring mattress.

As you can see they don’t specify foam densities or even layer heights so there’s really no way to attempt to duplicate it. It also uses a zoned offset innerspring rather than pocketed coils which would be difficult to acquire. Another detail of its build is that it’s a hand tufted design, and that process requires specific compression jigs and affects the feel and firmness of the mattress as well as increasing its durability. So unlike some more basic hybrid designs this specific mattress is not one that would be reasonable to try to duplicate.
Sorry, I know that’s not the answer you were looking for. However it’s better for you to realize the odds of success would be very low before attempting the project and potentially being out a lot of money.
