Do Latex Mattresses Shed during Breakdown????

Hello All,
I am looking at purchasing a new mattress and am stuck at the moment.
Simply put, I am aware that the protein fibers of the latex break down over time, however, I am unclear if that breakdown just includes the protein losing elasticity or if they fibers actually fragment or shed.

Would anyone be able to provide any information on this?

Thank you kindly for your inquiry. Latex foam is stripped of 99.9% of its proteins during the wash/rinse cycle of the manufacturing process. This allows latex foam to be hypo-allergenic. This is completely different than that of standard latex items such as rubber gloves (which do contain proteins).

Due to its rubber cell structure, latex foam can be much more durable/resilient compared to that of standard poly and memory foams. It will lost “elasticity” at a much slower rate compared to these types of foams.

Thanks for the reply. I was reading where the spare protein fibers are rinsed off to 99.9% effective rate. However, I cannot find anything on how the fibers breakdown over time. Most relevant studies (the hospital gloves mentioned above) are for disposable Latex products (single use).

Mattresses pose a different issue as they are a multi-use product. Does anyone know if this has been looked into, Do Multi-use latex products shed proteins during the breakdown process? Does anyone know how the protein fibers breakdown on latex over time?

While I am not allergic to latex, I am not eager to bring something into my home which could encourage the development of such allergy.

I am not sure what you mean by “protein fibers” when it pertains to latex foam. However, the lack of proteins in latex foam is what separates it from standard latex products.
