Finding a cooling mattress for a combination couple

Hoping to get some recs from everyone given how much there is to consider with mattress shopping. Our stats first:

  • Me: 5’9", 155lbs, 75% side sleeper, 25% back sleeper

  • GF: 5’6", 135lbs, 50% side sleeper, 50% stomach sleeper

What we’re looking for: Queen, cooling, edge support, motion isolation, < $1200 USD.

She’s a very hot sleeper and wakes up hours before me for her job, so motion isolation would be nice. The edge support is because we both tend to sleep towards the edge of the mattress. Our current mattress is a Casper, but I’m not sure which one since I got it in 2019. Our biggest issue is that it’s really hot, and we will often have shoulder pain in the morning from sleeping on our sides.

We’ve considered going with an original mattress factory queen + box spring + 3" latex topper to get good cooling, longevity, and to keep the spending down. I’ve also considered the DLX mattress. A lot of the other mattresses from places like Saatva, Helix, etc. were all out of our budget, and had conflicting reviews. Some guidance would be super appreciated, thank you!

Hey Just_For_Info!

Welcome to our Mattress Forum

Sorry to hear of the shoulder pain as a result of your Casper, and the sleeping hot. Which Casper do you have?

I’ll let @DLX speak more specifically, but I think the Premier Hybrid could be a great option for you in the split queen configuration to get that motion isolation you’re looking for.

Reviews tend to be that way. It’s really so hard to know what your experience will be on a mattress based on what someone else (with a different height/weight/need/pain point/comfort preference, etc) is saying about their experience.

People often review mattresses way too soon, as well.

Thanks for the feedback!

I believe we have the original all foam 2019 Casper mattress, which is definitely part of the overheating problem.

The Premier Hybrid you linked looks great, but unfortunately is out of our budget range at the moment. We were considering the DLX Classic with a latex topper though.
