I have checked every single link given in the foundations topic here for sites that sell wooden box springs. None of them seem to have a Full XL sized wooden box spring. Looking elsewhere on the internet I have had no real luck either. I don’t want a platform, or something that comes with legs. I just want an all wooden box spring for a Full XL sized bed, meaning the dimensions of 54x80.
They all offer standard full size obviously, but none seem to have Full XL sized, if anyone knows of a reputable place to order said size box spring, I would really appreciate any information they can provide. Full XL is also sometimes referred to as Double Long. This is the type of thing I’m looking for, just in Full XL size:
Side note: I have found one, listed on amazon as Mayton brand, and elsewhere as other brands, but the wording and poor english of the description, as well as the failure to say what type of wood is used leads me to believe it is likely a Chinese company of questionable quality.
This isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but My Green Mattress has a Full XL wooden slatted base that you may wish to look at.
Since the Full XL mattress size is something they make in house, they may also be a good resource as far as questions about where to get an adequate base for a mattress of this size, or how to evaluate the quality of a certain boxspring (or maybe where to get something custom). You can reach out to their dedicated forum here.
Ultimately, you’ll want to make sure the dimensions line up with the product you plan to purchase, as well as to confirm that the base you are considering can adequately support the weight of the mattress.
If you come across one and want some assistance in evaluating its quality or appropriateness for your needs, do please let us know!

Thanks for the reply, information, and link. I will keep that site in mind if I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. As to the help in evaluating a box spring that you offered, here is the link for the Mayton brand one I mentioned:
I do enjoy a good product hunt, so I thought I’d take to Google and see what I could dig up. You are right - Full XL wood slatted foundations are hard to come by!
I did find one option that you may not have seen yet - Classic Brands Instant Foundation comes in Full XL in a low profile 4" tall model. The slats on that one are 3.4" apart, and they say it’s made in the USA of spruce lumber.
The spacing between the slats is an important spec when it comes to slatted mattress foundations, and the recommended minimum slat spacing depends on what kind of mattress you’ll be putting on it. For latex mattresses, for example, usually somewhere around 3" spacing is recommended.
The Mayton foundation you linked to looks to have rather large spaces between the slats. If you’re unable to find a Full XL foundation with the recommended slat spacing, an option is to add more slats yourself using common 1x3 or 1x4 boards that you can find at Home Depot or similar. Most Home Depot stores will even cut them to length for you if needed.
Firstly, thank you so much for looking, I sincerely appreciate it. Secondly, this may sound like I’m being nitpicky, but the only two sellers for that on Amazon both have horrible user reviews, which I try to stay away from, and every where else I’ve looked for the brand you listed in the size I need, seems to be sold out.
I guess either Full XL beds have never been all that popular, or they are being phased out by the mattress industry, or both.
I’ve recommended plenty of customers to Michigan Discount Mattress for custom wood foundations and haven’t gotten any complaints, and they have good Yelp reviews, although I can’t say that Sleep EZ officially “vouches” for them. I don’t think they are slatted, although it might be worth a phone call - (40 x 85) Boxspring Foundations
Thanks for the link Sleep EZ! You’ve also given me an idea, I called US Box Spring and asked if they could sell me the length pieces from a Queen sized with the width pieces from a Full sized, because that should give me what I’m looking for. I’m waiting to hear back if that is doable. If it’s not I may go with the site you’ve recommended. I just wanted to try this first since Michigan Discount Mattress’ custom box spring seems a bit pricier.
Unfortunately that Wayfair link is the same one as the one I listed from Amazon, you can tell because they use some of the same graphics and wording. But thanks for continuing the search.
Sleep EZ,
I did not realize that your company and US Boxspring were linked, noticed when I got the reply. Had I known I would’ve just asked you here. Thanks for the reply.
The difference in length between the Full XL and Full is only five inches. So, what if I just used a Full sized box spring for a Full XL mattress? It would just be 2.5" hanging off either end, which would be less than the maximum slat spacing needed. Anyone know if that would cause any real problems?
The resulting overhang on either end could cause problems at some point, depending on the type mattress, how many are using it/ their combined heights, weights, sleep position(s), etc. One of the most important functions of a good foundation is to provide stability to your mattress and to perform correctly, the size box spring used should be equal to the mattress surface it supports. The linens used on the bed wouldn’t align correctly, and while that may be more of an aesthetic preference for some, it may be bothersome to others. The other consideration is what type Full XL mattress are you using? Box springs aren’t recommended for memory foam, all- foam, or latex mattresses, as they do not provide even support across the bottom of the mattress for these type products.
I did look online too and this size is difficult to find, to your point. Wayfair.com was the one site that once had a fair selection, but most of the models are currently unavailable. There is a Tatum Wood box spring, but it’s specs are pretty vague and no mention of the type wood used in the construction is available, so it’s not possible to comment on its durability potential. Are you still considering the Mayton model featured on Amazon? I looked up the link you provided (thanks for adding that), and couldn’t find the type lumber used in its construction either. If you do go the Amazon route, be sure that you have full understanding of the seller’s exchange/ return policies as Mayton doesn’t seem to be part of Amazon’s Prime program. Customers also have to submit an electronic form to request a copy of the product warranty, so you may want to do that first to see what remedies are available should you have future issues with the product. Have you found any other sources for a possible purchase since your last post?
I appreciate the reply. I ended up just ordering an all wood Full sized bed foundation, and I’m making a memory foam mattress, with poly foam base. I’ll see how much over hang there is, and if I find it bothersome, I’ll make some additions to the foundation to support the extra 5" of mattress.
Thanks to everyone for all your help, I’m just waiting for all my parts to arrive at this point, if I have any questions during the assembly process or thereafter, then I know where to ask.
