Great mattress/short useful life?

If you had a fairly expensive mattress that you needed to replace sooner than expected - because the middle sags when you lie on it - how many years did you get out of the older one?
I have a Helix that’s maybe 7 y.o., and was, for most of its life, the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever used. But now it sinks in the middle – you can’t see the problem, but if you press down on the middle vs the edges, it’s much less supportive in the middle.

Hi powerdog, welcome back!

Before we bought our new mattress four years ago, we had our mattress about 25 years. That is probably longer than we should have!
What is the warranty like on the Helix?

I’m sorry to hear that it is sinking in the middle. What kind of foundation/support do you have under it? And this is a silly question - but are you sleeping in the middle of the mattress?

Hi, Brian… My sister swears she’s had her mattress for 25 years, too. Oh well.

Helix warranty is either 10 or 15 years, depending on model. But I don’t think it includes sagging. Manufacturing defects, mostly.

The foundation is the one I bought for my previous mattress… wooden slats on a metal frame.

Yes, I tend to sleep in the middle, especially now that I’d sort of have to sleep uphill to stay on the sides. But last night I tried staying on the right or left foot or so, and woke up without pain for the first time in weeks. So I think the sag is really a problem for me.

I also read on this website that heating pads can damage memory foam, unlike all other foams. And now I’ve just learned that the top layer of the Helix is indeed memory foam. So maybe I’m to blame for my own problem.

Oh no - that’s too bad about the heating pad. Is the mattress flippable at all?

Definitely not. I think the bottom is hard. I went ahead with ordering a new one, even tho they offered some warranty coverage. Tired of back pain!

Yes, back pain is no fun at all. Hope the new mattress gives you relief!

We have a CozyPure that will be 12 years old in September 2024 (a month from now). It is like new. I will post pics in a month or so to add to the original post from 2012. :+1:
