Has anyone here slept on a Helix Birch Luxe? Is it temperature neutral and good for back sleeping?
Hi JBR2022,
I’ve tested, but not slept on, the Birch Luxe. It’s a mattress that leans toward medium-firm. They’ve recently switched to using Dunlop latex for the mattress going forward.
Your preference might vary based on your size and weight. Heavier individuals (over 210-220 lbs) may prefer a firmer mattress, especially back sleepers who typically enjoy a firmer, flatter surface. However, it’s just as important for the mattress to have a solid support layer. Even if you use the firmest latex available on top of a spring support system, if the springs aren’t supportive enough, your back can sink too much, leading to an uncomfortable night’s sleep.
The Birch Luxe uses a 14g, 5-turn spring system for support, with a 16g, 10-turn edge support. Despite the thinner gauge, the narrower diameter at the edge, the additional turns provide more than adequate support.
Overall, the Birch Luxe is a great mattress. The 1.5-inch organic wool in the comfort layer, combined with the latex foam comfort layers, make it a solid option for those who want a heat-neutral sleep.
While it’s an excellent choice, one thing to note is that you can’t adjust the layers. This is something some other mattresses, like those from a variety of TMs here at TMU, can offer for customization, should the initial build not be quite right.
That said, if your body profile matches the firmness level and you’re a back sleeper, the Birch Luxe should work well for you.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
