Help choosing a SleepEZ Organic Latex Mattress

Hello, I’m new here but I’ve been reading about mattresses for the past few days. I never thought it could be so complicated. First, I have chosen Sleep EZ based on a ton of positive feedback here and on the web, and the flexibility the brand provides. My wife and I are ready to move on from an old queen-size Ikea mattress that I can’t even remember the name or what is made of…

I want a 9" or 10" SleepEZ Organic Latex Mattress (this time king size!). My wife has a herniated disc and sleeps mostly on her side, sometimes on her back. Any feature that can help her with her hernia would be awesome. She’s 5’ 2" and currently at 158 lb.

I used to sleep on my stomach but I started feeling back pain, then on my side and my shoulder ended up hurting, I guess thanks to the Ikea mattress. Now I sleep any way I can and move around a lot during the night. I’m 5’ 11" and 170 lb.

Based on the website, the base layer would be a firm Dunlop, then a medium Dunlop. For the comfort layer, my wife would have to use a soft layer, in my case, it would be medium since I move a lot. Also, we probably need a Talalay here for coolness. It seems we’ll need a split mattress.

Not sure if any of this is accurate so any help is appreciated for both of us. Sorry for the long post but to be honest, I’ve never considered spending this kind of money on a mattress until a few days ago, but I now understand how important that is, at least our bodies are talking to us about it.

Is there any other information I could provide so I can get the most accurate help?

Hi orlandoryo and welcome to the forums and thanks for the inquiry! The 10" organic is our most popular, for sure, and this is for a few reasons. The top layer in the 9" mattress is only 2" thick, so you’d only get 2" of medium Talalay on your side and 2" of soft Talalay on her side. Talalay is generally better at contour and pressure relief on your hips and shoulders and Dunlop is normally the main source of back support that helps maintain proper spinal alignment and avoid back pain. However, Talalay can also be helpful in avoiding back pain because it provides more of what we call secondary support. Secondary support fills in the gaps between your body and the mattress. For side sleepers, this is normally the area between a person’s ribs and waist. For back sleepers, this is normally the area between the small of your back and the mattress. If these parts or your body aren’t being held up by the mattress, your muscles will work all night to hold those parts of your body up, which can lead to back pain. Aside from that, women tend to be curvier, especially around their hips, and having a top layer of Talalay can help avoid hip pain and keep the mattress from pushing their hips up, which can also lead to back pain. As such, most of our customers definitely benefit from having 3" of Talalay on top. It will provide more pressure relief, more secondary back support, and really is the more popular choice.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer. Second, it looks like I’m on the right track. Now, this might be a dumb question but here it goes:

If a split mattress is ordered and the two bottom layers are the same, in this case, firm and medium, are those two layers split as well even if they are the same on both sides?

Even though both sides would be the same, I would still recommend splitting all of your layers. About 95% of our mattresses go out with all split layers from top to bottom, and we get zero complaints on being able to feel the split and we get zero complaints about the layers shifting or anything like that. If all of your layers are split, you will always be able to adjust your side without affecting your partner’s side and vice versa, and you’ll have that option for the entire 20 year lifespan of the mattress. Additionally, the mattress will be easier to assemble, easier to move if needed, easier to do any layer exchanges if needed, and easier to return if needed. There really are no downsides to having all split layers.

Awesome! Then it’s settled. Now it’s time to pitch the $2400 idea to the wife… :eyes:

Good luck brotha! Just something to keep in mind, the price for the king 10" organic with split layers is $2199 with no charge for shipping or sales tax, 2 free pillows, and a free protector. We’re advertising an extra 5% off which drops the price down to $2089.05. The price of $2400 is for split layers with split covers, so that’s actually 2 twin XL mattresses, normally used on an adjustable base.

Ohhh so I can pick King (no split) and still select different “firmness” for both sides?

Yes exactly! You just check the circles on the side of the mattress diagram to split or unsplit the layers.

Just joined after reading your thread. I’m in a similar spot and curious to know how your mattress has been. Any feedback you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!
