Help getting across the line!

Hello!

I’ve absolutely loved this site and read through the pages. I’m SO SO grateful not just for myself but for all the people who’ve taken the time to put together this information and community. It makes me feel really good.

I’ve gone around to 4 different stores (MFirm, MWarehouse, and two local shops, one regional shop that stocks an NC factory’s beds (Maxwell & Ashby is the brand), and one that stocks the popular online brands like Helix, Nectar, etc.) and used the techniques for finding spine-alignment, noting pressure after 10-20 min of lying on mattresses, etc. I would prefer to pay in the $1,200 range, but would pay upwards of 3 if it was clearly the best mattress for me.

What’s been weird is the two mattresses I like the most so far are the Kingsdown Crestbrook Hybrid Plush and the Beautysleep PressureSmart 2.0 Plush.

I’m 6’2, 185, sidesleeper, looking for a king (because I’m 29 and while I’m the only regular user I’m thinking buying a bed now might as well plan for a second).

I somewhat doubt the longevity of these mattresses since they’re at the lower end of their company’s lines. But I honestly don’t like the feel of the Beautysleep black line, nor the higher end Kingsdowns. The two mattresses I like also are for a great price and on “sale” whatever that means (the Kingsdown sale’s extension almost makes me doubt it more). (I do like that the Kingsdown is made 30 min up the road from me and their plant has been a many decades-long staple of that community, even if it’s big Canadian corporate, etc.) I feel like these brands go against everything I’ve read on this site, too, lol. But are these good mattresses?

I love natural fibers, and am a very warm sleeper, and would love to support smaller businesses making things in a good way. But I haven’t figured out how to practically do that even with all this help. I’m also realizing once I started this process that I haven’t had a good night’s sleep on my two incredibly crap mattresses I’ve had while doing service related work for the past three years, so I’m a bit itching to wake up rested again.

Thank you for any help!
Henry

Hey hbk.

Welcome back to our Mattress Forum!

Would you happen to be able to provide anymore details about the materials/layers in this mattress? That’d help us chat through durability etc.

We definitely have our thoughts and opinions, but at the end of the day we’re going to tell you to buy what you feel confident with. If something matches your comfort and support needs and your budget, then that’s what is ultimately going to be the most important. After all, you’re the one who has to sleep on the dang thing

Hey Nikki,

Thank you for your response!!

The Kingsdown is foam base + individually wrapped coils + gel foam + other kind of gel foam + poly fiber + cover.

The BeautyRest is individually wrapped coils + memory lumbar + memory.

Based on what I’ve read, this all equates to low durability and for every possible reason (besides me having felt it) I’d like instead to have Talalay latex (I think over Dunlop because I like the plusher feel?).

Researching all the TMUs, I’m interested in the:
-Arizona Premium Mattress Hybrid w the Plush Talalay;
-European Sleep Works (Nordic II HDM, Alpine HDM, and Alpine Classic Talalay)
-I’ve got a note out to Gardner Mattresses and may get to test those in MA when I head up in a couple weeks
-BackScience Series 3 – not Talalay but the marketing is working on me

So. All that to say, I may be sold on not going w/ either of the ones I wrote about. But hopefully they’re the good starting points for finding mattresses that feel the way they do but are built better. I think the BackScience and Euro Sleep mattresses have 100-365 day return policies…

I feel like I’m on a good track… any pointers from here? How to do the next phase without a brick-and-mortar place to flop around in?

Thank you!!!

I will be checking out BackScience Series 2 and 3. I will be going to the factory store.

Might take a trip down to San Diego to visit Yawnder Mattress too.
