Help on finding a medium firm hybrid

I’m 6’2", 27yo and weigh 190lbs. My girlfriend also sleeps with me, she is 5’0, 160lbs. I sleep on a plush rn and its too soft, I get lower back pain, also i’m a side sleeper. I’m looking for a Queen sized Medium Firm Hybrid. My budget is $1300-1700. What do you guys suggest?

Hi weinthecutz,

When purchasing a new mattress, it’s important to understand how mattresses are constructed and the materials used in their build.

In our education section, you’ll find key points to consider when moving forward with your mattress purchase, especially when it comes to sleepers of different sizes.

A 5’0" sleeper vs. a 6’2" sleeper may experience different issues on a mattress, particularly with certain zoning formats. Understanding your Posture & Alignment, Personal Preferences, and Pressure Relief needs (PPP’s) will be essential in finding the right mattress for you.

Transparency about materials, foam types, and spring gauges is helpful when comparing mattresses, even before stepping foot into a showroom. While you can follow all the steps and do everything right, the best way to determine if a mattress will be a good fit is to sleep on it in your own home for at least a month or two. This gives the mattress time to settle and allows your body to adjust. The Mattress UnderGround values transparency. While knowing every single detail does not always guarantee comfort, it does make a statement on quality.

There are many mattresses that could meet your needs for a medium-firm hybrid queen. However, transparency regarding specifications is an important factor to consider when choosing a mattress. While a lack of transparency may not necessarily mean the mattress is poor quality, it’s worth investigating further, especially if a company is hesitant to share information. Reviews from users outside of the manufacturer’s website can be helpful here. If you notice a trend of similar complaints, it may indicate a potential issue.

Testing mattresses in a showroom can be helpful, but it’s not your only option. It’s a good way to eliminate mattresses that feel too soft, as they’re likely to get softer over time. If you select a mattresses that feels too firm, and it did not soften enough as predicted, it may benefit from a quality topper, which can help with comfort and longevity. A topper can also be replaced if it becomes compromised, saving you from having to replace the entire mattress.

Collaborating with an experienced mattress professional, without ever stepping into a showroom, can often lead to a better outcome. Many Trusted Members here at TMU have reported a success rate of over 90% when working with customers remotely to find the perfect mattress.

Additionally, if you prefer natural materials over synthetic ones, both options are available within your budget.

Just some thoughts to consider before you more on to particular recommendations, which there are many in your area.

If you have a specific question for a Trusted Member here at TMU, you can use the @ symbol on front of their name, like this @DLX or @EngineeredSleep and it will “ping” them to respond to a question specific to what your question is.

Best of luck on your mattress journey,

Maverick

Hi, like others, we do have an option for you to consider. We’ve had a price reduction with our Naturepedic Serenade Hybrid Mattress, which brings it into your price range with our Black Friday Sale.

The Naturepedic Serenade Organic Mattress comes in three firmness levels: firm, cushion-firm and plush. The cushion-firm has support deeper down, but soft latex on top for cushioning, while the firm option will still have the latex, but a firmer feel.

Hope this helps you, if we can answer questions for you, give us a call.
