Help with options and outstanding questions I should ask?

I narrowed down our options to what I believe are good choices based on everything I read on TMU, but I still feel out of depth with how much information there is. Can this group help with a second opinion? What, if anything, should I be concerned about with these options? Are there glaring questions that I should ask before making a final choice? Appreciate the help.

Hey khsleep,

Regarding your options, both the Gardner Mattress Corp and Therapedic PureTouch appear to have solid features, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind.

With the Gardner option, look into the durability of the materials, especially the percentage of polyurethane foam and visco elastic foam, as this can affect the mattress’s longevity.

For the Therapedic option, you might want to inquire about the sourcing of the natural latex, as quality can vary significantly. Additionally, it’s important to ask about return policies, warranty details, and whether the mattresses have been tested for harmful chemicals. Ensuring that you’re making an informed choice can provide peace of mind.

If there are any specific features or preferences you have, sharing those can also guide in offering tailored advice.

Gardner manufactures their own mattresses and should be able to make modifications on the fly is you desire other options that currently exist in the Gardner mattress being offered. I am under the impression that Therapedic mattresses are predesignated, although they do contract with various retailers and create different mattresses for each.

Hopefully this helps,

Maverick

As someone who has been on this journey for several years, I highly recommend latex. ALL latex. Sleeps cooler, no chemical off gassing, lasts longer. You can do a DIY and get exactly what you want using a combination of layers - even layered differently for sleeping partners’ different needs. We made some expensive mistakes with ready-made mattresses, then tried to make them do with toppers. I can’t tell you the improvement with 3" firm Dunlop, 3" medium Dunlop, 2" soft Dunlop in a quilted cotton cover (all components organic and from Latex Mattress Factory). I will probably add a Talalay top layer down the road for a bit more cush for my old bones, but it’s insanely comfortable as is. That’s part of the beauty of DIY latex - if your needs change due to age, health, pregnancy or whatever, you can rearrange or add a layer for a few hundred dollars instead of replacing a $2,000 - $3,000 mattress.
