How to keep coils from spreading out? Tape? straps?

I am doing a DIY build, and I have the texas quad pocket springs.

They’re great but they have a tendency to spread out.

I was planning on getting a stretch cotton cover but I’m not sure if they would contain the springs.

But maybe I can secure them with straps so the cotton cover doesn’t do work in keeping the springs all together.

Thoughts?

Using a quilted perimeter around the springs could potentially work well to contain and stabilize them within your DIY mattress build.

The quilting stitches provide additional structural support around the edges of the springs, which can enhance the overall stability of the mattress. This can help maintain the integrity of the mattress over time.

Quilting can help distribute pressure and support more evenly across the mattress surface, especially around the edges where the springs are located. This can contribute to a more comfortable sleep surface.

Just ensure that the quilted perimeter is securely attached to the mattress structure to effectively contain the springs.

I am not sure what the TPS folks will offer as a solution or our DIY latex experts will say, but I like the idea of a quilted band around the springs.

Maverick.

No worries , this is exactly how it is supposed to be.

The springs are in what we call the “relaxed state” when they are loose outside of a cover. In this state they do measure bigger.

You will push the sides in when you put the unit in the cover.

We produce 100’s of this exact unit everyday and every unit is size checked and if it is off, we cut out the coils recycle the steel and the fabric.

I was considering a quilted cover but I heard that quilting firms up plush builds, and I am going for a plush build.

Maybe there’s encasements that are quilted around the perimeter, but stretch at the top.

I was not necessarily referring to a quilted cover, but more of a quilted perimeter just placed around the springs, prior to placing a cover on the build. Like placing a ribbon around a box.

I tried looking up quilted straps, and didn’t see anything. The closest thing I found is when I looked up securing strap on amazon, the same straps used to hold down cargo in trucks I suppose.

Perhaps if you feel, even now after reassurance from @PCS, that this situation is perfectly normal, you can work with someone like @CozyPure or one of the other Trusted Members who manufacture their own mattress protectors, they could make one with a skirt made with a quilted side panel and a slight stretch top, with a very tight fitting band to secure it to the mattress.

I am not quite sure this is feasible or warranted, but I suppose if you want something made, it probably it can be done.

Our quilted mattress covers are stretch knit materials and work very well to contain pocket coils and are used in our own hybrid configurations with no issues.

@Arizona_Premium may have the solution you are looking for.

Thanks to @Arizona_Premium for providing that information!

Can I ask what build you have? I also noticed this I have the 15g no perimeter. The skirt is a good idea actually. I initially tried tie down straps which didnt really conform well to the perimeter. Might try some dewing DIY for a skirt with some spandex material.

The coils are OK but Ive tried many combos of latex and unfortunately experience pressure points. BOth hips and shoulders are a bit boney. IDK what the mini coil would do. I hesitate to buyy what I cant return I dont want to pile up all this material that I cant use.

It looks like the TPS 8" coils come with or without edge support coils. Does having edge support affect the overall firmness or horizontal spread of the inner coils?

@PCS

They wont change the feel at all or the spread. This unit is manufactured from head to toe (longways). each quad is totally independent.

Yeah def shouldnt. I didnt get edge support and I really dont need it since I dont often sit on the edge of my bed. The edge support is like two rows in from the edge. I ordered a TwinXL and the problem is it would eat up a significant portion of the sleep surface. It wouldnt be as much of a problem with the Full+ size. So in my case I might feel the edge coils depending on my sleep position.
