Is Tempur-pedic worth the value?

Hello, so happy I found you this forum and appreciate any input!

My husband and I were testing out some mattresses in store the other day and fell in love with the Tempur-pedic ProAdapt Teal (Medium). I side sleep and need pressure relief on my hip bone. He sleeps on back, stomach and side. We are currently on twin Endy’s beside each other, but are giving these to our kids and looking for a king. What we loved was not only the foam mattress and pressure relief, but the ability to not feel the weight transfer of each other. I didn’t like the feel of any coil mattress since we are used to the foam.

Now I’m wondering is this mattress really worth it or are you paying for a name brand? We are in Canada and have not tried out many other brands or possibly latex options. Is Tempur-pedic really where its at? I’ve tried researching and reading through here, but I’m just lost now. Bonus for anything more environmental/natural.

Thank you,

Minette

I know what you are going through. Im a memory foam fan also with a Tempurpedic mattress.

Most here at TMU dont like Tempurpedic because their materials are not specified. But if you like it, get it.

In Tempurpedic line, I like Pro Adapt and up. Pro Adapt Medium is a solid choice. Id try Luxe Adapt Firm also because its more like a medium, but more conforming. I dont like the Breeze Firm because it felt more ā€œcoarseā€ compared to Luxe Adapt Firm. But try them out for yourself. I think that Tempurpedic is the best memory foam. Try the other memory foams and then try Tempur. Its night and day. Some say Tempur is overpriced junk. I dont feel that way. Make your own decision. With that said……try latex too!

Quick tip: try the mattresses in a few stores….they feel slightly different due to different age and use. Solution? Take the average. I personally think Luxe Adapt Firm is the best of the bunch, but Pro Adapt Medium feels similar….maybe a bit softer.

Check it out!

Hi Minette123,

Welcome to the world of endless mattress information, where it can definitely be overwhelming! There are many wonderful, knowledgeable people on here that I’m sure you will find to be helpful in your search! It sounds like you found the ā€˜comfort and feel’ that you both prefer, which is sometimes the hardest part.

Is Tempur-Pedic overpriced? Maybe. It depends on who you ask lol. Cheaper mattresses may not last you as long, or may not be made with the same quality materials as something that seems comparable. All foams are made using proprietary ingredients, which can make it difficult to tell the differences in terms of actual quality or if something is just a ā€˜name brand’.

Pressure relief and motion transfer is something you don’t have to worry about in most latex or foam mattresses. It’s just a natural benefit to them. But of course each persons experience is unique to them so it’s always best to try it for yourself come to your own conclusion rather than take someone else’s word for it.

I would encourage you to explore your options of latex and memory foam, after all you only buy a mattress once every decade…or more!

Good luck!!

Minette,

Is the Tempurpedic brand worth it? You are looking for objective truth like 2+3=5. Which mattress is ā€œworth itā€ or ā€œgoodā€ is a subjective truth like what favorite ice cream is. Subjective truth is an opinion.

I like Tempurpedic because the pressure relief is the best ever. I think the Tempurpedic feel is unparalled. Thats what I think. Others feel the opposite.

Soms like latex and some hate it. The only way to know is to test in store and buy with a comfort guarantee and return policy.

Hi Minette123, and welcome to The Mattress Underground

My husband and I were testing out some mattresses in store the other day and fell in love with the Tempur-pedic ProAdapt Teal (Medium). I side sleep and need pressure relief on my hip bone. He sleeps on back, stomach and side. We are currently on twin Endy’s beside each other, but are giving these to our kids and looking for a king. I didn’t like the feel of any coil mattress since we are used to the foam.

Any mattress you and your husband choose will be unique to you, based on your Stats (height, BMI, sleeping position(s)) and your PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences). You might want to read the [Mattress Shopping Tutorial] as well as the [Mattress Specifications You Need To Know] and the [Mattress Durability Guidelines] to get a better idea of materials, components and what type of bed you would both enjoy.

Now I’m wondering is this mattress really worth it or are you paying for a name brand? We are in Canada and have not tried out many other brands or possibly latex options. Is Tempur-pedic really where its at? I’ve tried researching and reading through here, but I’m just lost now. Bonus for anything more environmental/natural

Tempurpedic, like many of the major retailers and bed-in-a-box brands, are not transparent in the materials and densities they use in their components, which makes it difficult to ascertain how it will hold up for any given sleeper. Being a large retail manufacturer, they have a lot more ā€˜voice’ in advertising and marketing, which does not necessarily mean a better product. As far as whether its ā€˜worth it’…that’s up to the consumer. A better question is does it fit your (nice)

Memory foam is enjoyed by many consumers, and as you like the lack of motion transfer, memory foam is ideal for this; Latex has a very different feel to memory foam which some consumers swear by and others avoid. You and your husband, if possible, should test a few types of beds both latex and foam in person at local showrooms to see which feels more comfortable; this may help ā€˜shorten’ your list of possible mattresses down to manageable amount. For foam and if you have a normal BMI range (between 20 and 29) I would make sure any foam in a potential mattress has no more than an inch or so of lower grade foams (for memory foam no lower than 4 lbs/cuft for normal range weights) and if polyfoam is used, with at least 1.8 lbs/cuft density, just to ensure you have support.

Several of the Trusted Members of the site are located in Canada, like MFC who carry both memory foam and latex mattresses; for latex there is also CBH Wood, and also GhostBed Canada if you still want the feel of memory foam – but you should ask about the foam density as some models are made to partner specifications (and are available in Canada at some Costco and Lowes’s locations). If you can provide both of your Stats and PPP, and your mattress history, they can help you to find a mattress that best works for you both.

I’m curious if you happen to know which tempurpedic model is now as close to the contour elite from the old line? Perfect med-firm. Just what I needed all these years and need another

Go to store with Tempurpedic to try, but Id pay attention to Luxe Adapt Firm and Pro Adapt Medium. I like Luxe Adapt Firm myself.
