Hello, looking for a high quality mattress with at least 10 year warrantee. My husband and myself are both combination sleepers and need a firmer bed as we both have lower back pain. I also have shoulder pain from side sleeping. Any recommendations for mattresses, we currently have a Tempurpedic cloud supreme, hybrid and it’s too soft.
Hi Staci,
Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround.
Back pain on a mattress is certainly an uncomfortable situation. Warranty’s are a manufacturers way of offering some indication of the durability of their mattress. Although in todays market place this type of wishful promise, tends to be over exaggerated and taken advantage by the more scrupulous companies out there. While others have the documentation, reputation and reviews to back it up.
Of course, providing a complete body profile, height, weight, ect. would help narrow down the field. If you like the feeling viscoelastic memory foam, like tempurpedic, but want something more supportive, you have some nice options from @DLX, @EngineeredSleep and @BackScience TempFlow division. Additionally, each of the manufacturers mentioned, offer alternatives to memory foam to target the feel and support you are looking for. Provided that additional information or body profiles can be gathered to determine what the best mattress build would be best for you.

Thanks for the mention, @Maverick!
Hi @Staci, thanks for sharing your situation. Based on what you’ve mentioned, it sounds like you’re looking for a mattress that offers firmer support while also addressing shoulder pain from side sleeping. If you can share your height and weight, I can give you a more tailored recommendation.
If you’re looking for something more supportive than your Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme Hybrid, you might consider our DLX LatexLux, which provides a firmer, more supportive feel without memory foam. If you’d prefer something in between, our DLX Premier offers adjustable firmness options, so you can fine-tune the feel to your liking. Both models come with an honest lifetime warranty and are made with high-quality materials to ensure durability.
Also, since you mentioned shoulder pain, it’s worth checking if your pillow is thick and firm enough to support your neck and shoulders. Often, side sleepers benefit from a softer mattress that cradles the shoulders, but since you find your current mattress too soft, a firmer mattress paired with the right pillow might be a better solution.
Let me know if you’d like more details or have any questions!
The Cloud Supreme by Tempur-Pedic is definitely not the ideal support due to the fact that the softer memory foam over what amounts to coils that are meant to blend with the memory foam to give a more supple response will allow the back to sink in more and cause that hammock-like effect that can lead to or exacerbate back pain. With my over 20 years as a mattress designer of memory foam, latex and innerspring mattress designer, as well as being a Doctor of Chiropractic, I would be happy to give you some both general information to assist you, as well some more specific reasons to consider the brand I created called Back Science that took me over 20+ years to create.
The Back Science mattress is a zoned hybrid, but unlike any other hybrids on the market, it offers more structured lumbar support through its double zoned, patent pending Lumbar-Flex interlocking support that makes it completely supportive, without losing the comfort in the hip region that other zoned mattresses tend to create. Also, Back Science was specifically tested with the Mattress Checker App. to objectively verify that your postural alignment will be properly maintained in order to help prevent the lower back from sinking too deeply, while allowing more pressure on the shoulders, which can lead discomfort and potential back problems over time. The Back Science Mattress is something I created after many years of seeing patients who suffered from back and shoulder issues due to poor mattress support and was developed by specifically performing hundreds of postural checks using the App. to really ensure that it works.
Another difference comes from the quality of the coils and density of the foams used. With Back Science, we are using extremely high-quality, all U.S.A. made components, such as our over 1,000 count individually wrapped coils and is a true hybrid system that uses a Hypergel foam on the surface, which will give that weightless pressure relief, but with a much more buoyant/springy surface that has feel that is somewhere between latex and memory foam, but differs substantially from memory foam, but still is extremely pressure relieving on the hips and shoulders.
Back Science offers and unprecedented 30-year limited warranty that is triggered at only half the sag of other mattress companies (just 3/4 inch, not the full 1.5 inch industry standard). Also, you have a 365-night sleep trial, but to that point, you will never know how a mattress will perform until you sleep on it, so unlike other brands, our full 365-night trial allows for free customizations if needed to first try and solve the issue before returning or exchanging the mattress. That is part of Back Science’s success, though 9 out of 10 Back Science users love the way the mattress performs without any modifications. In your case, I really believe that the luxury firm support of the Back Science Series 2 would be perfect for preventing pressure points when you are on your sides but will still support your body as back or stomach sleeper.
I will also add that I am thankful for being able to work directly with thousands of customers thanks to our flagship Ultrabed mattress store location in Southern California and I can tell you from my many customer interactions, that Back Science does bridge that gap that is found when memory foam mattresses aren’t supportive enough, but the sleeper would still heavily benefit from a pressure relieving type of foam surface.
Hopefully, this gives you an extra option, but feel free to write back if you have any questions, You can reach me back at this forum, call us at 800 667-1969 or email us direct. Also, if you do purchase a Back Science mattress, be sure to use the 10% off TMU10 discount code we give to The Mattress Underground members.
Thanks!
