I have been perusing your helpful site and forums. Latex mattresses, particularly natural ones, seem to be recommended here. I have heard from a dealer you also mention as highly reputable and knowledgeable that natural latex breaks down over time and much faster if you have gas heat. Additionally, the products of the breakdown are unhealthy as I have heard, releasing a fine powder into the air that one then inhales. Could you please address these concerns?
That’s certainly news to me. You can see a list of the things that can break down natural latex here and the most common “culprits” are ozone and ultraviolet light which would only have a significant effect if the mattress didn’t have a suitable cover. I suppose if a natural gas heating system produced ozone that it would be theoretically possible but it’s not something that I’ve heard mentioned before.
The breakdown products of latex are also something I wouldn’t be concerned with and would be much less “toxic” than the breakdown of other types of foam.
