Lower back pain with APM's Bolsa and 3" Talalay latex - next steps?

Hi there! I appreciate any help with this issue.

I have recently bought APM’s King Eco Sleep Hybrid Mattress with QE Bolsa 8" coil spring with a 3" Talalay latex (ILD #28 medium). My husband (5’ 6", 155 lbs) is a predominant side sleeper, occasional back sleeper while I (5’ 3", 120 lbs) am a predominant back sleeper, occasional side sleeper.

BOTH of us felt some lower back pain with our current set up (and somehow seem to be able to “feel” the springs even with a 3" Talalay medium latex, isn’t this odd?). We feel great sleeping on our sides.

Should we:

  1. Exchange the Talalay #28 (medium) for a firm (#32) - I will probably do well with it, but I worry that this might cause pressure points for my husband’s shoulder since he is predominantly a side sleeper OR
  2. Keep the #28 medium and get an additional 2" or 3" Talalay topper that is a half #28 (for husband) and half #32 (for myself) - would this work for his lower back pain since its a medium on top of a medium (seems like we should have a firm layer for him to mitigate the lower back issue) OR
  3. Do choice #1 and if that hurts my husband’s shoulder, we can get a 2" or 3" Talalay topper with half medium (#28) and half firm (#32). That way, it will be a medium on top of a firm latex so that might offer some back support but ease the pressure points on his shoulders?

The mattress is on a Thuma bed with exactly 3" in between the slabs. We both sleep on contour pillows (and have been using the same pillows sleeping on our previous spring + memory foam topper with no issues).

Thank you in advance for reading!
