If these numbers are correct, would the Sealy be a good replacement for the Tempurpedic? I originally went with the Tempurpedic because I’ve was having back problems and my chiropractor told me he has a 20yr old Tempurpedic and loves it. At the time I didn’t know the quality had changed since then.
I didn’t try the Sealy in the store but there is a Mattress Firm near me where I could try it. Also, has anybody bought a mattress online from Home Depot? They are offering 10% off plus another $100 off for getting their credit card. It seems like they have a 90 day easy return policy as well.
There isn’t much in the way of similarity between the Tempur-Pedic density and the Sealy, but what is important to note is that you are trying to solve the back pain issue. With my over 20 years of experience as a Doctor of Chiropractic and mattress designer, I can say that mattresses like the Tempflow I helped design (www.Tempflow.com) and Tempur-Pedic are going to give you a more dense and supportive overall configuration. However, unlike Tempur-Pedic’s shift from a 20-year warranty to a 10-year, Tempflow still uses the same high quality foam that we used from the start in order to allow us to keep our 40-year warranty structure. With that said, when I worked on creating Back Science, I was going for the concept of a hybrid mattress that had the same type of conforming comfort of Tempflow/Tempur-pedic, but with gel foam comfort surface that offered more buoyancy for those that wanted an alternative to the slower reactive high density memory foam.
Specifically, it is designed to keep your spine in the most proper alignment thanks to that buoyancy, as well as a patent pending interlocking lumbar center zone that keeps the mid-section of the mattress from sinking downward. Also, unlike virtually any other mattress on the market, Back Science has a specifically designed GripLock Modular cover system that allows modifications, should you not like the feel after sleeping on the mattress, at no cost whatsoever for the first year of ownership and that includes switching the Gel foam to a memory foam if that is what you desire after testing it.
If you have any more specific questions, feel free to let me know and if you do wind up making a purchase of a Tempflow or Back Science mattress, be sure to use the extra 10% discount code offered through The Mattress Underground. That code is:TMU10.
We tried a number of mattresses after our 16-year-old Tempurpedic died. Wasted a lot of money and caused ourselves a lot of aggravation. VERY happy now on all latex (DIY components from Latex Mattress Factory). You can get good support and as much pressure relief as you want / need without that “quicksand” feeling (much cooler than memory foam). It will also last a lot longer than memory foam and some of the other foams in conventional mattresses.
