Well, after eight years of joining this forum and gathering information, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a mattress from Engineered Sleep. They were wonderful in the ordering process. The Duo Memory Plus seemed a good fit for plushness for my 5’3” 110 pound frame, but I said that 14.5 inch mattress was way too thick and I wanted only 12 inches. They said they could get it down to 12.5 inches with a different spring base. However, once it was delivered and set up, I found I still received the 14.5 inch mattress. It actually is 15” overall, with the bottom fill and pillowing on top of the mattress. My sheets and bedding do not fit and it makes my new $2,800 platform mid century bed frame look foolish. I do not like having to climb in bed knee first, because the bed is too tall. The frame is only 12 inches tall. My old bed frame was 12 inches tall and the old mattress was 11” in height, 12” with the padding on top.
I have been in talks with Engineered Sleep, but I am not sure what can be done. I am afraid to agree to a 12.5 inch mattress, because I know it will really be 13” in height. Some other things are not quite right either (the 4” topper is 1.5” wider than the base) and the feel is much firmer than I envisioned, which makes me wonder if customizing the parts will only make the mattress much firmer?
I am inclined to want an 11 inch or 11.5 inch mattress, knowing that with the pillowing on the top, it will really be 12 inches. What can be done to rectify this issue, I wonder. Or is there an. 11” plush mattress out there somewhere?
This is why it took me eight years to make a decision about a new mattress!
