Naturepedic vs My Green Mattress

Hi, I can’t find any real word comparisons between the Naturepedic Sernade (plush),Concerto, and the MGM kiwi. I’m hoping there’s someone who has tried them and can give a comparison.

We need to buy 2 mattress— This will be for our toddler and for us. He sleeps with us now and ideally we’d like a mattress that is the same so the transition between cosleeping and independent sleeping is easier. Our mattress now is very worn out. Very plush. We like supportive but soft and cozy as well. My husband and I are side sleepers. He’s 200 and I’m 140.

My concerns:
I don’t want pressure points but need our spines supported. Our bed now is 12 years old and sinking.

I don’t want to feel any buttons in the tufting.

Open to adding toppers (though I added the MgM topper to a mattress once and it made me feel sea sick. I do have another latex mattress (SoL medium with 4 inches of soft topper) in guest room that we like but want a hybrid for everyday).

One review of the EOS scared me away because they felt the transition between the 2 sides of the layers (king size) in the bed. I am someone who would tune into this if it can be felt at all. So that’s why I’m not considering the EOS—also price!

Thank you for your help!!

Hi Kbee,
Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround, we are happy to have you and thanks for your question.

I am going to do a quick rundown of the 3 mattresses, but this also concern with the toddler.

Naturepedic Serenade Plush

  • Comfort Level: Very plush and cozy, designed for softness while maintaining support.
  • Support: Offers good spinal alignment with its dual-firmness options, which can cater to side sleepers.
  • Pressure Relief: Excellent at alleviating pressure points due to its plush top layer.
  • Tufting: Features non-invasive tufting, so you shouldn’t feel the buttons.
  • Durability: Made from organic materials, ensuring longevity without sagging.

Naturepedic Concerto

  • Comfort Level: Medium firmness with a balance of support and softness.
  • Support: Provides a more responsive feel, which can be beneficial for your husband’s weight and your side sleeping needs.
  • Pressure Relief: Good pressure relief, but may not feel as plush as the Serenade.
  • Tufting: Similar to the Serenade, with minimal feel of buttons.
  • Versatility: Can be a good transitional option for your toddler as it’s slightly firmer.

MGM Kiwi

  • Comfort Level: Known for a plush feel but generally offers a supportive structure.
  • Support: Good for side sleepers, but may not provide the same plushness as the Serenade.
  • Pressure Relief: Provides decent pressure relief but might feel less soft compared to the other two.
  • Tufting: Typically designed to avoid feeling any buttons.
  • Hybrid Benefits: Good mix of foam and springs for support and comfort.

So, just a quick overview of the 3 mattresses. Now on to the toddler. I would suggest you read this recent post. Children often do better with a firm supportive mattress as it helps with their spinal posture and development.

Understanding that you and your spouse may have individual and dissimilar preferences, I would focus on the best bed for the toddler, independent of the co-sleeping arrangement. You may find that if the toddler is comfortable and enjoys sleeping in their own bed, the transition from the co-sleeping concept may be accelerated, which from a mattress firmness perspective will be better in the long run. I would also suggest a full size rather than a twin that most parents lean towards.

Chances are a quality mattress for the toddler will last quite a long time and he/she will appreciated the extra room as he/she moves into the teen years. Plus, you get to skip a mattress expense.

Regarding the potential occasion co-sleep, if their is a need for that security “blanket”, should not be disruptive on a temporary basis, if your mattress is more plush than the toddlers. As a matter of fact, if the toddler feels a little uncomfortable on a plusher mattress, you may find the toddler drifting back to his own bed as it may be more comfortable.

Hopefully @TheCleanBedroom will chime in on the Naturepedic comparisons and offer additional insights on the EOS as well.

Best of luck,

Maverick.

Hi Kbee and welcome to the Mattress Underground,

We have worked with Naturepedic for over a decade, so hopefully can offer some perspective and address a few of your concerns.

It sounds like you are looking for firm support with some cushioning, especially since you are side sleepers. The top of the Naturepedic mattresses is quilted, so you should not feel any buttons.

About the EOS: I understand the concern! We have not received complaints about feeling the transition, but if you are concerned, adding a 1" or 2" topper may help, as it could stretch over the entire bed to provide another layer.

A little bit about the Naturepedic mattresses you have mentioned -

Serenade you can choose the firmness: Firm, Cushion Firm, or Plush. On that model, you cannot choose by side, though. 25 year warranty - so it should serve you well.

Concerto There is no choice of firmness - most people say the Concerto is more of a plush feel. If you are looking for the feel of a pillowtop in a hybrid model, this would be the way to go. Again, the 25 year warranty.

EOS What you gain with this price point is customizability. You can customize by side, and as you probably saw, there are five different levels of firmness to choose from. You didn’t mention it, but if one of you needs a firmer mattress than the other, this is the solution. Also, if your mattress starts to wear, or your life needs change, you can swap out a layer for much less money than having to replace the whole mattress. And, they have a layer swap program for the first few months.

For your toddler, Maverick’s suggestion about a full size is spot on - especially if you buy a high quality mattress. The Verse has a little higher price point than the 2-in-1 - but with a 25 year warranty, it could easily be useful from toddler to teen, or even beyond. The 2-in-1 has 2 different sides, as you probably saw. It has a waterproof side for now and a plush side for later. Both mattresses are very supportive for growing bodies.

I hope that helps a bit. Give us a call if you would like to discuss options, or you can deal directly with Naturepedic. Their sale ends today, but they do run other sales periodically.

Hi Kbee,
Our Kiwi mattress is a medium feel. The Kiwi Mattress is an affordable choice, and is the top-rated mattress in its class. It is the only button-tufted, certified organic hybrid option available at a starting price of less than $1000. Anywhere.

We use 8" springs and 2" of organic Dunlop latex and an organic cotton cover with organic wool sewn under the cover.

The Kiwi has added lumbar support for a slightly firmer feel across the center third of the mattress to support your lower back and keep your spine in proper alignment. It also offers edge support with tighter coils along the edges of the mattress providing a firmer seating edge. With proper support across the entire mattress you can sleep from edge to edge and top to bottom. Steel springs will last up to 4 times longer than a foam support edge.

The Kiwi is a great mattress for kids as well as adults and is good for all over sleepers. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
