Hello! I’m about to purchase a king luxerion latex mattress from LMF. I’ve been doing extensive research over the past two months and have finally decided that this is the mattress I want to purchase. However, I’m having trouble choosing the firmness level. I’m hoping for some input.
I’m 48 years old, 5’4” and weigh between 155 and 160. I regularly lift weights and exercise up to 6 days a week (combo of lifting, HIIT, hiking, and cycling). I’m what I would consider “dense” in the sense that I have a good amount of muscle and I’m also pretty thick. I have a pretty traditional hourglass figure. I also have some low back/pelvic/hip discomfort/achiness that comes and goes. I’m primarily a side sleeper, and use a body pillow for hip and shoulder alignment. I often take on the “starfish” type position of partial side and partial stomach sleeping.
My husband is 47 years old, 6’1” and weighs about 195. He’s lean and muscular. He also works out about the same amount as me, but with less weight lifting. He primarily runs and does high intensity workouts. He’s a combo side and back sleeper.
I have a hard time sleeping and am a pretty restless sleeper. I’m at the point in my life where I really understand the importance of quality sleep and I’m working to improve my sleep in a variety of ways, including the mattress I use. My husband doesn’t struggle with sleep and is less “picky” about his sleep surface. So, I’m driving the selection of our new mattress. Although, we both agree that we don’t want a soft mattress. We both prefer firmer sleep surfaces. I know that the standard recommendation for a side sleeper is a softer mattress, but I really don’t think that actually applies to me. I’m currently donating a Nectar mattress after 10 months because it was too soft and uncomfortable (luckily they’re refunding the purchase amount since it’s within the 365 days). I hated the feeling of sinking into the mattress and was even more restless at night than I normally am. I realize now that memory foam is not for me and that’s one of the reasons I am planning to purchase a latex mattress. About a month ago, we went to a local mattress store to try different mattresses and all the mattresses felt too soft except two hybrid mattresses that were firm/extra firm. There are no local places to try latex mattresses, but after my extensive research I believe a latex mattress will be the right choice. I prefer to go with all latex instead of a latex hybrid mattress.
So, considering my preference for firmer mattresses, my initial thought is to go with the luxerion latex firm mattress. I know I can exchange one layer for $45 if I’m not happy with the feel of the mattress. Does this make sense? I’m just not sure if it will be way too firm (I’m not even sure that’s actually possible considering my preference for firm surfaces). Soft sleeping surfaces tend to make my hips and back ache.
Sorry for being all over the place with this post. I really want to order the mattress tonight since the nectar mattress is being picked up early next week. I don’t want to go too long without a new mattress. I would love some feedback on my selection.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us!
We recommend the ‘Soft’ Luxerion mattress setup for individuals who primarily sleep on their side and/or back and weigh less than approximately 190 lbs. The soft layer on top will provide the necessary pressure relief, while the medium over firm layers below offer the gradual support needed.
For your husband’s weight, I would recommend starting with the same setup. With his 6’1" frame, he is relatively lean at 195 lbs. Therefore even though he is real close to that ‘cut-off’ weight, the soft layer on top will also provide the pressure relief he requires.
I suggest requesting to split your layers down the middle. This will allow each of you to adjust the comfort on your own side without affecting your partner’s side. For instance, if the S/M/F setup ends up being a bit too soft for your husband, he can adjust the layer configuration to create a firmer feel on the surface. For example, he can move the soft layer to the center and bring the medium layer to the top (M/S/F). This will provide a more supportive sleep surface without losing the soft contour layer. Another option is to keep the soft layer on top but switch the medium and firm layers so that the firm layer is in the center, underneath the soft layer (S/F/M). These are just a couple of examples of how you can rearrange the layers to create a different feel on the sleep surface.
If you are interested in the split configuration, although we don’t offer this option on our website currently, you can call our office when you are ready to place your order, and we will be happy to ensure that your layers are split.
This model also includes a 90-day one-time comfort exchange policy. This allows you to exchange one layer (or two split layers) within the 90-day window for a flat shipping cost of $45.
Should you have additional questions or would like to discuss further, please don’t hesitate to call our office anytime. Have a fantastic day!
Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. I know you recommend the soft option for people who are side sleepers, but is it possible that the soft option would be too soft for me? I really dislike soft mattresses. Anything soft causes my hips and lower back to ache. The nectar mattress we had was too soft and that’s considered a medium-firm mattress. I know it’s a different material, so it’s not really comparable, but I also dislike other soft mattresses. I can’t stand soft pillow top mattresses. I was trying to decide between the medium and firm options and wasn’t even considering the soft luxerion an option.
We ONLY recommend the ‘soft’ option for individuals weighing approximately 190 lbs or less. For those weighing between 200 lbs and 240 lbs, the ‘medium’ option is typically more suitable. For individuals over 240 lbs, the firm option is advisable.
Please note that this mattress is made entirely of Dunlop latex, which is heavier, denser, and firmer compared to Talalay latex. Therefore, at your respective weights, the soft setup will feel more like a medium overall feel for both of you. As I explained in my prior response, you also have the option to rearrange the layers to create a firmer sleep surface if the initial S/M/F isn’t quite supportive enough.
I hope this helps. Thanks again!
