New to Latex – Advice for Pressure Relief, Cooling, and Support?

Hello everyone,

I’m new to latex mattresses and would really appreciate some advice. (I need to get some good sleep!)

I’d like to better understand the different types of latex available and what might work best for my needs. I’m also curious about whether a full latex mattress or a latex and coil hybrid would be the better option for me.

For context, I’m a 32-year-old female, a retired athlete, 5’7” and 185 lbs. I tend to experience pressure points around my shoulders and hips, and I also sleep fairly warm, so cooling is important to me. I generally prefer an initially soft feel but need firm support overall. I’m also a side/back sleeper.

I’ve heard great things about the quality of products from Sleep EZ, and that you offer great value compared to other options on the market.

Cost isn’t a major factor for me—I’m more focused on finding something that can truly relieve the pressure I’m experiencing and keep me cool. Any recommendations on the type of latex or mattress setup that might suit me best?

Thank you all in advance for your insights!

Hello, and thank you for your inquiry!

Based on the information you’ve provided, I would recommend an all-latex mattress composed of three 3" latex layers encased in a cotton and wool quilted zippered cover. This design allows you to customize the firmness of each layer to achieve your desired comfort level. Given your weight and the pressure point issues at your shoulders and hips, I assume you are primarily a side sleeper. For that reason, I suggest a soft 3" Talalay layer on top of a medium 3" Dunlop layer, with a firm 3" Dunlop layer at the base (S/M/F).

At your respective weight, the soft Talalay will provide excellent pressure relief and contouring, helping to alleviate discomfort at your pressure points. And although both types of latex are considered open-celled foams, Talalay is a bit more open-celled than Dunlop, so it should help regulate your temperature better, as latex—particularly Talalay—doesn’t trap body heat like memory or poly foams.

The medium Dunlop layer above the firm base provides gradual support, with the medium layer serving as a transition to the firmer layer below. This layered structure ensures a smooth, balanced feel from soft to firm.

One of the key benefits of this setup is its adjustability. If the mattress feels too soft, you can unzip the cover and rearrange the layers. For instance, you could move the firm layer to the middle and place the medium layer at the bottom (S/F/M), providing more support beneath the soft Talalay top. This flexibility allows you to fine-tune the feel until you reach your perfect level of comfort.

This setup is part of our Organic Mattress line. Our 10" model includes a 3" Talalay layer over two 3" organic Dunlop layers. You can explore this model here: https://sleepez.com/product/organic-latex-mattress/.

On the page, you’ll find our mattress configurator tool. Simply input your height, weight, and primary sleep position, and it will generate a recommended configuration based on your specific information—likely the same one I’ve suggested here.
Our organic mattress line also comes with a 90-day comfort exchange policy. This means that if you decide to exchange any of your layers for a different firmness, you can do so—one layer at a time—as many times as needed within the 90-day window. You only pay for shipping with each exchange. The first exchange comes with a flat $30 fee, and any additional exchanges will be charged at the standard shipping rate. While our goal is to get it right the first time, our exchange policy ensures you have flexibility to find your perfect comfort level.
