Obasan vs. sleep ez

Hi,
Is there a discernible difference between the King Size Obasan Classic #1 Natural Latex and the King Size Sleep Ez 13" Natural Latex?

Thanks

Hi Gabeh.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

This depends on a few things. One being your stats (height, weight, sleeping position, and general preferences) and also the compositional differences in the mattresses.

Are they both 13"? Do they have the same material in the comfort layer?

It would be helpful to have more information about the Obasan Classic you’re looking at. The only ones I could find were 8 and 10"

Hi Nikki,
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I really appreciate it.
They are both used mattresses.

I am 6’2" and about 200lb. (mostly a stomach/ back sleeper)
My partner is 5’10" and about 170 lb. (mostly a side sleeper)

Here are the mattress details-

Obasan:
8"
A total of 8 inches of pressure relieving GOLS certified organic latex. 100% GOTS and GOLS certified organic materials produced. No synthetic materials. Handcrafted in Ottawa, Canada. Wool casing that is naturally temperature regulating to keep you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s warm.

Purchased 2019, mint condition, was always kept with a mattress protector on (see last picture, quilted washable wool) to provide protection for the mattress.

Sleep Ez:
13"
Sleepez organic latex mattress, can move the layers around however you like to adjust firmnesses.

Includes: 2” soft organic wool Sleep Ez topper, 2 split soft, 2 split med and 2 split firm

In perfect condition has been covered with a waterproof encapsulated zippered cover

I guess my overarching questions are:

Will the 13 inches in the Sleep EZ be a marked improvement over the 8 inches of Obasan?

Their latex seems fairly similar upon a modest amount of research. I understand that the Obasan wraps their latex layers, but apart from that, is there much of a difference other than the thickness?

My initial thoughts are that we’re on the heavier side and that we might appreciate the extra few inches of the Sleep Ez?

Would you concur?

Also, the Obasan is organic latex while the Sleep EZ is “Natural Latex” but not organic.

Thanks again.

Hello Gabeh,

I am not as familiar with the Sleep EZ, so they can probably help you more in that regard. I can help you with the Obasan Classic, though.

First, I want to speak to the wrapping of the layers. Obasan does this to reduce shifting, making a more stable mattress. Even more important, it reduces degradation of the latex layers from the friction of shifting.

Secondly, a thicker mattress often feels plusher, as you have mentioned. However, this could easily be adjusted with the addition of a three or 4-inch mattress topper if you felt it necessary.

Obasan can also help you with layers - swapping out layers to make it more comfortable for you. I’m not sure how a warranty would work, since you are not the original purchaser (sounds like), but you could ask them.

Are these models used mattresses?

Also, I’d encourage you to take a look at our wide selection of latex mattresses - almost all of which are customizable. We have a variety of price points and configurations - something for everyone.
