I love the feel of my girlfriend’s IKEA Matrand mattress, but I don’t think it will be durable enough for me over time and I sleep really hot so I don’t think it’ll be cool enough, come summer.
Natural Talalay latex seems like a great option, but I want to try to match up the density and layering of the latex mattress as closely as possible to the IKEA Matrand.
Do you all have any tips on how to do that?
Hi JustinC92 and thanks for reaching out! This is Rodger, and I answer all of the Sleep EZ ask the experts questions, so my response will be the same as it was in my email. Also, if you’d like to get a response from the forum members instead of just a sleep expert like myself, you would likely do better by posting the question in the general forum. I’m probably the only person you’ll get a response from if you’re posting in the Sleep EZ Ask the Experts section of the forum. Nonetheless, I’ll go ahead and post my response here so that other forums can view and reference it -
Please keep in mind that then only real way to replicate the feel of that mattress would be to order that same mattress. Also, without actually feeling the mattress myself I would have no way of knowing how to get an all-latex mattress that feels just like the mattress you reverenced. I can say, however, that the most important step to replicating the feel of that mattress would be to order our mattress with a 4-way stretch cover instead of the cotton & wool cover that comes standard on our mattresses. Second, you would likely want to make sure the types of latex are correct and that the firmnesses are correct. Again I just have no way of knowing what types of latex and what firmnesses would come closest to that mattress. I wish I had better advice for you than this, but it’s really the best I can do.
The most important thing I can say about our recommendations is that our initial recommendations have a 90% success rate (we only have a 10% layer exchange rate and a 3%-4% return rate) so there’s a 90% chance that what the website recommended turns out to be your perfect mattress. If you get the mattress and it’s too soft, you can make the mattress firmer by unzipping the cover and rearranging the layers. If you get the mattress and it’s too firm, then just call us and we’ll send you a layer exchange within the first 90 days for just $30 for the first exchange. The website recommended soft/medium/firm, and I’d call that a medium mattress for someone at your height and weight. If you prefer a firm mattress, then the best choice would likely be medium Talalay over medium Dunlop over firm Dunlop.
