Hello, I have done so many hours of research here to help with mattress selection for our primary BR. I am 30’s 115lb 5’6” and almost exclusively a stomach sleeper. I also run very hot when I sleep. Husband 212, 6’0, early 40’s and sleeps mostly on his side, occasionally on back. Currently have the Prana vinyasa plush which is far too soft and I am waking with back pain every morning. Is someone able to suggest a few specific models that are a good balance of value/money that would be a good fit? I am thinking a latex or hybrid with innerspring might be a better solution for us. The memory foam tends to be too warm and too soft for my sleep habits. Would love to find something under 3K ideally. Thank you so much!
Hi Hallie,
Welcome to the MattressUnderGround.
Thank you for the information provided. As you know from your research here that for a mattress to be a great match it needs to offer the PPP’s(Posture and Alignment, Pressure Reflief and meet your Personal Preferences)
In your situation you may benefit from individualized comfort since you are dissimilar sizes.
Your Prana Sleep has the makings of a very nice mattress. Some of the factors you may have learned here at the MattressUnderGround, we stress one of the ways you should approach purchasing a mattress is to understand what specifications it is constructed. Just mentioning, 6" of this or 12" of total that, is not exactly the best way to evaluate how a mattress will perform, offer longevity or a way to make comparisons verses other possible choices. I am surprised your husband has not experience a bit of hammocking with such a soft mattress.
The back pain with the PranaSleep Vinyasa Plush, it’s likely due to its softness, which might not be providing enough support for your stomach sleeping position. Considering firmer options, especially hybrids with latex and innerspring constructions, could offer the support you need while accommodating your husband’s side sleeping preference.

A medium-firm mattress is typically a good balance for stomach and side sleepers.
Some brands mentioned offer customizable firmness levels, which can be very beneficial for couples like you with different sleeping preferences.
Ensure the mattress comes with a generous trial period and a good warranty to test its suitability. Know your 4R’s (Return, Restocking, Refund and Reviews/Reputation)
As you can see, there are a plethora of hybrid options that offer superior support and excellent comfort across a range of price points. All of these choices provide transparency regarding materials and construction, ensuring you make an informed decision.
Hopefully, with a little more homework you will find the perfect match. While many will prefer the hybrid option, most on the list offer all latex options as well, plus a few not mentioned such as Flobeds, Custom Sleep Technology and Cozy Pure. Many will debate the all latex vs hybrid as the way to go. Since you have tried the all foam option, and your husband is under 220, there is an argument to be made in favor of all foam, provided you select the appropriate firmness for each of you.
Good luck on the next round of studying and investigation.
Maverick.
The best place to link up to each of these choices is here.
Once you select the perfect mattress, don’t forget, your pillow selection is equally crucial. Your pillow will comprise 40-45% of your sleeping comfort. Since you are transitioning from a sinking soft mattress to a firmer one, it is essential to carefully consider how to match your pillows to the new mattress and comfort level.
Thank you, @Maverick, for mentioning the Naturepedic EOS. We are running a Fourth of July sale now and that mattress, during the sale, runs well under $3000 in a queen size. Hybrid, high-quality, breathable, customizable and you have the opportunity for a layer swap if needed to tweak the firmness.
