Good morning!
Height/Weight: 6’0 - 185 lbs
Sleep type: 60/40 Side & Back
Current build: (King) 1” LUX-HQ, 8” QEE Bolsa coils, 3” soft 19ILD talalay, wrapped in a 13” SLAB bamboo/cotton cover, sitting on a KD Nomad platform
Concerns:
Side sleeping there is slight discomfort on my opposite hip that isn’t in contact with the mattress as well as pressure on my upper back/shoulder/lower neck area causing pain.
Back sleeping there is some soreness in my calves & slight soreness in the mid shoulder.
Things I have tried:
8” bolsa + 2” med SOL + 2” soft SOL - too firm
8” bolsa + 2” med SOL + 3” soft talalay - too firm
8” bolsa + 2” soft SOL + 3” soft talalay - too firm
8” bolsa + 3” soft talalay - most comfortable so far, very close to what I’m going for except for the pressure points
Currently the mattress actually feels quite nice other than this pain I’m experiencing, the surface is plush with adequate support although it feels as if maybe i’m getting too much pressure from the coils and there not being enough of a “buffer” between me and the coil system, sort of I’m sinking too much on my side or back in certain places hitting the firm coils underneath causing the discomfort.
I am wondering what the best course of action to remedy this would be. Would 2” of 14ILD talalay on-top of the 3” 19ILD talalay be too aggressive of an approach, or would 2” 28ILD talalay above the coils to transition be the play? I will note that I don’t enjoy the feel of Dunlop at all on the mattress, the “push back” makes it very uncomfortable for me. Any feedback or other proposals to tackle this issue is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all!

Hello saltyassjarhead and welcome to the forums! Based on the information you’ve provided, I think 2" of medium Talalay under the coils is likely the best choice, just to get some extra space between yourself and the coils without making the mattress too soft. I don’t normally recommend 14 ILD latex anyway because it normally only last a few years before it starts getting body impressions.

Dunlop works well for a base layer but I’m with you, the feel of Talalay is awesome especially for the comfort layer. I agree that a 2" #28 or even another 2" #19 should solve the issue.

I appreciate the help @Sleep_EZ and @Arizona_Premium, I’m going to move forward with 2” of the #28 medium talalay and go from there!
Cheers

So I tried adding the 2” medium talalay and it still didn’t fix any of the issues I was having, it feels as if it isn’t providing enough spinal alignment. What I did was take the 1” lux-hq from the base and put it on below the medium talalay which was still not enough support, then I tried putting it on top of the medium talalay with the soft talalay ontop of that. It seems this is a tad too firm and I’m feeling soreness in my legs and some pressure on the back when back sleeping and slight pressure on my shoulders side sleeping, enough to make it bother my sleeping BUT it is providing me a lot more alignment and fixed those issues I was having. It sounds odd but would adding an inch of hd-36 or firm Dunlop in place of the lux-hq that is sandwiched between the medium and soft talalay possibly be an option? I’m not entirely sure what this change is indicating I need other than it helped and has been the least painful build so far. Any ideas?
To clarify, the current build is: 8” bolsa - 2” med talalay - 1” lux-hq - 3” soft talalay
