Recommendations for less heavy latex mattress

For the last 18 years we have been sleeping on a sealy Spring free posturpedic 100% latex core mattress called Meadows. We have loved this mattress, but it is time to replace it. Our only complaint is how heavy it is. We are in our mid seventies and struggle together to change the sheets on the bed. It is so hard to lift the mattress to tuck in the sheets. Is there a mattress that can give us the comfort and support of latex with less weight? We are average sized people who are mostly side sleepers. Thanks.

Hi Kris1.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

We’ve tagged some of our experts in your post and hope that they’re able to weigh in (pun intended, haha) on your question!

I could be lying, but I’m guess that there is a weight difference between Dunlop and Talalay layers, so if you were to have a mostly Talalay mattress as opposed to a mostly Dunlop mattress, you may be able to reduce the weight some. However, it’s my understanding that latex is pretty heavy as a rule.

Are you opposed to springs? This would, obviously, lighten the mattress up substantially but would also change the feel of your sleeping experience.

Hello Kris,

We have a latex mattress and I understand what you are talking about! May I ask a question - how thick is your mattress? I’m wondering if a little bit thinner would be lighter for you.

Thank you,
Katie
