should different manufacture mattress feel the same if use same materials and construction?

say I find a mattress I like that has specific specs. if I look for another mattress with the same specs, should it feel the same. I am having a hard time paying more than $600 for a mattress and was thinking if this is a good way to go

Hi domiagnew,

It would depend on whether you are comparing all the specs or just some of the specs of each mattress. There is more about the different ways that one mattress can “match” or approximate another one in post #9 here but if two mattresses use exactly the same materials and components made by the same component or foam manufacturer and every foam layer is the same type, density, thickness, and firmness and all the other components are also identical (including the specifics of the cover and quilting) then they would be virtually identical mattresses yes. If there are any differences between them then the two mattresses would be different to some degree and how they compare would depend on the specific differences and on the sensitivity of the person that was comparing them. In some cases differences between two mattresses that would seem relatively small to most consumers (such as a different layer thicknesses of an inch or so in one of the layers or differences between two different materials that are similar but not the same or differences between the quilting patterns of a cover) can have a surprising effect on how two mattresses compare in terms of their feel and performance.
