I’m trying to figure out a little more information about the latex used in Sleep Nation mattresses.
From what I gather they are made by Thera Pedic. The Thera Pedic international website says they have a US plant in Denver and that is local to Sleep Nation so I’m sure that the beds from Sleep Nation are made right in Denver.
That much I can tell but I Don’t see much information about the latex itself and maybe this doesn’t even matter if “a” latex is an all natural Talalay process latex.
Additionally it really may not matter becuase I ordered the bed already today. I should have asked before maybe.
I tried to read as much as I could on this site and in the end it came down to ordering on line from a souce recommended here or paying a bit more and using a local source where I could actually test the beds and have a storefront to deal with in the event anything goes wrong.
Anyhow, I’m pretty happy with covering as many bases as I could but after the fact I’m just curious about the particular latex used in this bed. I’m confident it would not have gotten a favorable nod here if it wasn’t quality I just don’t see many/any particulars online.
The latex manufacturer that a mattress manufacturer uses may be proprietary information that some manufacturers don’t wish to disclose for competitive reasons (just like they may not wish to disclose their memory foam or polyfoam suppliers) but the type and blend of the latex is the important information you need to know and Sean will certainly disclose this to his customers (see this article).
I guess it’s a moot point … although you can still ask him and I’m sure he’d be happy to tell you.
I’m not sure which mattress you ended up purchasing but if it was all latex then it certainly wouldn’t have any weak links … and congratulations on your new mattress
It’s 6" of 40 in the base and 6" of 28-30 in the top. There is very little padding above that in the cover so it’s like 12" of 99% all natural Talalay latex.
If there is a weak link it might be that the entire thing is one hunk of latex so altering layers would be tricky. Perhaps if it turns out to be too firm I can easily put a couple inches of softer topper on it but I had good alingment on it (as best I could tell) and it felt plenty comfortable to me… not too firm even as these are on the firm side of the numbers.
I’m really looking forward to sleeping on it but it won’t be here for a few days…
Thanks for letting us know what you ended up choosing and your feedback about SleepNation … and I’m looking forward to your feedback when you receive it and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit
Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’m very curious to know how your SleepNation bed is working for you. I’m thinking of ordering the Larimer Street Firm sight unseen from SleepUnion (I think it’s the same company). https://mysleepunion.com/larimer-street-firm/
I know it’s risky to do that, but it sounds like just what I’m looking for and pickings are slim for good mattresses under $2K in New Mexico. Any reports about their mattresses would be most appreciated.
My wife and I purchased a Wynkoop St Plush from Sleep Nation in Lone Tree back in the 2014/2015 time frame. I’m a larger guy at 6’3" 265lb and my wife is 5’10" at 130lb and we loved the bed at first. It was very soft and we just melted into it. However, in the past couple years the bed has become much firmer than we wanted. This model is not flippable. However, it looks like SleepUnion (again, looks like the same company as Sleep Nation) has the same mattresses, but at least the Wynkoop is flippable. I’m disappointed that the mattress appears to be one solid piece. I unzipped it today and saw that the bottom appears to be standard yellow foam. There is certainly latex on the top, but again it appears to be one thick piece. For these reasons, I’m looking at DIYing the bed in several layers. A DIY approach appears to be more than 50% cheaper than the current offering. I hope that helps.
We’re considering purchasing from Latex Mattress Factory. They’ve been very responsive in my emails and has immediate answers that seem to line up with our experiences. Only thing holding us back is the return policy.

While nothing is 100% sure when you deal with personal needs and preferences, there is a good chance that you’d get things right from the get-go, and if not you still have the option of fine-tuning and correcting any incorrect firmness/comfort layering choices.
If you decide to give them your business, I’d stay close to them and provide a good summary of your needs and preferences to get the help you need to make a good choice.
