I tried a Savvy Rest Serenity Spring mattress today. It has a layer of coils and a 3” layer of latex.
I am trying to decide whether to go with coils as the base layer.
My concern is over time, will the coils hold up or sag?
And how does this compare over time to three layers of latex?
Any feedback would be appreciated!
I’ve been trying to find customer reviews of the Savvy Rest Serenity Spring, which has a base layer of coils/springs. Unfortunately I am only finding reviews of the serenity with three layers of latex.
Hi AmyZ,
Welcome to the MattressUnderGround and joining as the affectionately known MUGster.
Choosing between a mattress with coils as the base layer versus one with multiple layers of latex is an important decision, and understanding the longevity and performance of each can help you make an informed choice.
Coil-based mattresses typically offer excellent support and durability both in the body area of the mattress and the edge of the mattress.
High-quality coils, such as those found in the Savvy Rest Serenity Spring mattress, are designed to maintain their shape and resilience over time. However, there is a risk of eventual sagging or deterioration with lower-quality coil systems. Factors such as the gauge of the coils, the quality of materials used, hardening and turns and the overall construction of the mattress can all impact its longevity.
On the other hand, latex mattresses are known for their exceptional durability and resilience. Latex is a naturally durable material that tends to hold up well over time, and tends to resist sagging and indentations. This too is predicated on the assumption of quality processed latex, whether in the Talalay or Dunlop methods. Additionally, latex mattresses often offer excellent pressure relief and support, making them a popular choice for many sleepers.
Comparing the two over time, latex mattresses, some say, may have a slight edge in terms of longevity and resilience (there are those who will debate the merits of each), particularly if it uses high-quality latex materials, although factors like the weight of the sleeper, maintenance of the mattress and quality of materials will contribute to the longevity. However, a well-made coil-based mattress provide excellent comfort and support for many years and will usually outlive the life of the mattress.
Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your personal preferences, sleep needs, and budget.

Maverick,
Thank you very much for your detailed response. It’s reassuring to hear that a high-quality coil system is durable and shouldn’t sag for many years. I’m hoping to get at least 10 years from a Savvy Rest mattress.
Thanks again.

Hello AmyZ,
Thank you for your inquiries! To address your question about the longevity of a 3-layer latex mattress versus a hybrid (latex over coils), an all-latex mattress typically lasts at least 50% longer, if not more. This is why all-latex mattress models usually come with a warranty that is twice as long as that of a hybrid mattress. For example, we offer a 10-year warranty on our hybrid model, while our Natural and Organic all-latex mattress models come with a 20-year warranty.
That said, a hybrid model can still provide excellent comfort comparable to an all-latex mattress in many cases. I’d be happy to offer personalized recommendations for you. We base our comfort suggestions primarily on an individual’s height, weight, and primary sleeping positions. This approach ensures we can provide you with options that offer proper contour, support, and spinal alignment.
If you don’t mind sharing your height, weight, and primary sleeping positions, it would help us make more accurate recommendations. If you prefer to share this information privately, please feel free to call our office anytime at 480-966-8731.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Shawn.
Thank you for your very informative response. It’s useful to know that an all latex mattress can last 50% longer than one with a coil core layer. That’s a serious consideration, as we’re spending a lot. Thanks also for your offer to help me configure a mattress. I’ll be in touch if I have any questions.

Savvy Rest is helpful if configuring a mattress, and we are glad to help also.
You are correct that there are few reviews so it is tough to know. We do not sell many of the Serenity Spring mattresses, so I have no experience to go on either.
If you are doing coils plus latex, you could also look at Naturepedic. Their EOS series has a 25 year warranty, so it should last awhile. The nice thing also about the mattresses made of components is that you can swap out components later if needed to change the firmness or freshen the mattress - and that is a lot cheaper and easier than a whole new mattress.
Best of luck! Let us know if we can help.
