Top Rated Online VS In-Person

Hello,

Looking for a medium to firm mattress. I currently have a memory foam plush mattress that is way too soft at this point of my life.

I am in need advice on whether to buy a top rated mattress online or buy a mattress I liked in person at a mattress firm or Raymour.

First, I liked the Beauty Rest Series 3 Medium at Mattress firm. Then, I liked the Aireloom Luxury Firm at Raymour.
But both are never mentioned on websites that show top rated mattresses for the past year.

I saw that Saatva, Helix, and Nextar are usually the highest rated but there is places within 20miles for me to test these out at a store.

What should I do?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

All of those review sites are being paid by the mattress companies. I wouldnt trust them.

Aireloom Streamline Luxury Firm is a great mattress. Overall, Id put the Aireloom Preferred Luxetop M1/M2 and Streamline over BeautyRest Black. But check them both out. If you like BRB, so be it.

Go test a bunch of mattresses. Make sure to try in your most used sleeping position for 15 min.

Hey there Tjh3316.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. I’m sure some of our amazing Expert Members will chime in, but I wanted to add some two-cents as well.

While these brands can be good for some…they have massive marketing spend/power behind them. Those ratings didn’t happen by accident, and it doesn’t always mean it’s because it’s the best product. I’d recommend taking a look at our Mattress Shopping Tutorial and Durability Guidelines (which those big brands rarely rise to meet).

This is an important data point. What did you like about these beds?

That’s because “Top Rated” isn’t a real metric that means anything substantial. At the end of the day, the rating shouldn’t matter because what’s important is YOUR personal needs/preferences. The “worst” mattress on the market is the best mattress for some people’s needs. So, if you can, I’d suggest ignoring these “best of” lists and search based on your needs —

which leads me to my next question:

What do you want/need from your mattress?
What is your sleeping profile?
What are you absolutely hoping to avoid in your next bed?

Ok understood on the online reviews on various sites. It’s a bit unusual as I’ve used these sites for electronics in the past and it worked out well. I guess it is different for the mattress industry.

I liked the Aireloom in person because I thought their luxury firm was much more comfortable than the BRB. BRB felt bumpy with the top of the mattress due to the way the coils are from what I was told.
I need a medium-firm mattress. Chose the firm for the sake of longevity and it sinking over time. Im a side sleeper.
We have a plush memory foam. Sinks way too much.

The Aireloom is very expensive- on sale for $4100. Way over what I thought was right for a mattress. I think $2500-3000 is my max.
But Im willing to spend money on a quality mattress that will remain firm for a few years.

I noticed the retailers in my area are limited to BRB, Aireloom, Sterns and Foster, and Seely.
Couple of purple and avacado and a bunch of temperpedics. So im limited in what I can test.

Test as much as you can. Even arrange a 1-2 day trip to a city with mattresses. You will be stuck w this mattress for 5-25 years. Returns are time consuming.

For side sleeping, check out Aireloom
M1 Firm and M2 Firm and M1 Plush.

Oh!!! Also Aireloom M2 Plush also.
