Ultimate Hybrid Pocket Coil Latex Mattress question about top layer

Hello there. I am interested in the Ultimate Hybrid Pocket Coil Latex Mattress for my platform bed (wood slats). I am looking for something that will last longer than 6 years. I am a primarily a side sleeper (occasionally back), 115lbs and 5’8". My last bed was a hybrid with 1" of talalay, poly foam and 6" pocket coils and was considered a “medium”. It didn’t hold up for as. long as I had hoped. My question is should I choose medium talalay for the 3" top layer? or plush? or dunlop? which will last longer? Thanks for your help.

At your weight I don’t know that you would benefit from the zoned coils of the ultimate. You may be better served by the Ecosleep model with the bolsa coil upgrade. I believe that will be the same product, just with the non zoned 8 inch L&P coils instead of the combi zone. Either should be a quality, durable product.

Thanks for your quick reply. I was looking at that one as well though it’s not deep enough for my bed. I need a mattress between 12"-14" in height to fit my bed. I’m wondering if the medium or plush talalay would be more suitable. Do you have thoughts on that?

The Eco Sleep is 12 inches if you select the +$100 bolsa coil option. Those coils are 8 inches vs the 6 inchers in the standard model.

For firmness my inclination is that the soft would likely work better at your weight - but if your personal preference is towards a firmer mattress the medium may work well for you also. I am by no means an expert on this subject, id probably defer to Ken’s expertise.

For clarity, I’m not with APM. Didn’t realize this post was in the ask the experts section. I’m definitely not one of those :upside_down_face:

All good! Thanks for your feedback. Super helpful.

The Eco Sleep model with the Bolsa coil upgrade and the Soft Talalay is going to be the best choice for both comfort and durability. It is important however that you rotate and flip every six months the Soft Talalay. This will even out the wear and tear which will improve overall durability by years. This model is 12" tall. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Ken! I tend to like a firm yet cushioned feel. Do you still recommend the Soft Talalay? I was thinking of the Medium. Would it still require rotating and flipping every 6 months?

Side sleepers generally do better with the soft but medium is the most popular choice. Rotating every six months is recommended regardless of firmness.
