Unicorn mattress at a hotel bed…help to replicate

I have fibromyalgia and other chronic illness which cause pain.

In 2019 we got a lower end mattress. It worked out for awhile then wasn’t working.

Almost a year ago I did a ton of research and bought a Nectar Premium mattress (which I know y’all don’t recommend…wish I had found this site sooner). It didn’t work out and was causing more back pain.

I stay in hotels for my son’s travel ball about 5-8 times a year and always sleep terrible at hotels, wake up in pain, etc.

So I have slept on a LOT of different mattresses that don’t help.

A couple weeks ago we went to Club Wyndham Kingsgate in Williamsburg and I had 3 of the best and most restorative nights of sleep I have had in literally years. It was like a miraculous difference in how I felt and my pain levels.

I found their guest purchase program but (1) they will not tell me the exact mattress (2) there is no return policy (3) I saw a post here from Phoenix warning against this.

But I’m still stuck because I feel like I have been given real hope that a mattress can make a difference, but still not quite able to get there. Even my Fitbit recognized the difference and my sleep score was higher there.

I feel like I’m looking for a unicorn, except I know at least one does exist.

I think I can offer some perspective due to my wife having Fibromyalgia since 1996, as well as being a Doctor of Chiropractic who has had success in both treating Fibromyalgia patients and designing mattresses that address the issues that Fibromyalgia sufferers experience for over more than two decades now. One of the reasons that Fibromyalgia is tough to treat is the same reason that you are having mattress issues and that comes down to needing to have proper support for your spine, but at the same time sleeping on a mattress that helps eliminate pressure points. It was the reason I originally developed the Fibro-Pedic mattress, which addressed both back support and pressure relief through use of memory foam. but helped me evolve the direction that I wound up taking with the hybrid configuration of the Back Science mattress and sleep system that replaces the memory foam and base foam layers with a surface gel foam and individually wrapped over 1000 count coil technology. With Back Science, I was able to utilize an objective spinal measurement tool I created called the Mattress Checker to come up develop and refine special lumbar zoning that works to maintain spinal alignment, while still allowing the conforming Hypergel comfort layers to give the much needed pressure relief that can be extremely essential for avoiding the flair-ups that Fibromyalgia sufferers experience so readily.

Originally, my wife did very well with the Fibro-Pedic, but many years later when she started getting sciatica from a more recent injury to her discs, I switched us over to the Back Science mattress and it has helped her tremendously. Back Science does have a unique feel, but the many customers I interact with at our flagship Ultrabed Mattress store in Agoura Hills, CA report that it does have that same type of overall firmness and pressure relief that they have felt sleeping on some of the higher end hotel mattresses. Unfortunately, buying a mattress you slept on at a certain hotel often does not often replicate the same results for those that have made a purchase and tried it in their home environment. Some of this may be due to the effect of sleeping temporarily in a vacation environment, but it also may be that they are not getting the exact same mattress that was in that room they slept in.

Either way, you will never know how a mattress will perform until you sleep on it. A recent Trust Pilot 3rd party survey showed that 97% of Back Science users experienced an improvement with their back pain, but with Back Science there is also a full 365-night trial that allows for free customizations if needed to first try and solve the issue before returning or exchanging the mattress. That is part of Back Science’s success, though the majority of Back Science users love the way the mattress performs without any modifications. If modifications are needed, it is a simple exchange of comfort and/or zone layering via UPS that can insert into our proprietary GripLock modular cover system.
