Urban Mattress brand (Colorado) - any objective info on these?

Hi,

After now being on my third online mattress that I’ll likely be returning, I’m considering going with a local manufacturer called Urban Mattress. They have a variety of offerings, and they’re all quite expensive (I’ll easily be paying an additional $1k-$1.7k for a king size mattress relative to the products I’ve tried so far which came in around $2k).

I was in store once before and their sales pitch was that the higher cost is justified by them using exceptional quality materials and no marketing budget, and that you’re really getting what you’re paying for, with them allegedly having lower margins overall and the cost mostly coming from the actual materials used in manufacturing the mattress. I’m of course highly skeptical of sales pitches.

Anyway, I should be able to really find a mattress that meets my needs as a side sleeper (most mattresses give me shoulder pain after a night’s sleep - I weigh 165lbs and am 6’1”), and they claim to have a few models with very low motion transfer (an important requirement for me).

But it’s hard to find any kind of data on these mattresses. Zero professional reviews, and a bunch of customer reviews which I generally don’t find very useful for mattresses given how personal such a purchase is.

How can I best go about qualifying that these are actually very high quality mattresses?

Hi bleep123.

Looks like Urban Mattress gets quite a few mentions in our forum. You can see all of the different conversations by keyword here. Maybe there will be something helpful in there!

I’d be interested to know what you were quoted. Looking on the website, their price point seems relatively reasonable, border-lining on the more reasonable/competitive end of what you’ll find comparably for similar sizes/builds.

Professional reviews are usually biased and paid for by the company.

I’d only pay attention to what they’re saying about durability as (as you know) the rest is relative.

I’d figure out if they share anywhere where their materials are sourced.

Do they disclose the density of their non-latex foams?
