Using a 15" Cover on a 14" DIY Hybrid build

I have had a 12" all latex mattress for four years. I wanted to go back to the traditional spring mattress feel so I purchased somp L&B quantum coils. I plan to use some of the layers out of my current mattress. I am currently at 14" in innards (1" firm dunlop, 8" coils, 3" soft talalay, 2" extra soft talalay). I am a side sleeper and like a very plush feeling mattress, which the all latex provided, but I want the additional cooling of an innerspring because I live in a hot, humid climate. I have decided on the Arizona Mattress bamboo/wool cover. I was getting ready to purchase the 14" cover, but then thought that I might have to add an additional 1" layer of firm dunlop in the transition layer, so thought I might should order the 15". My question is, will a 15" cover work on a mattress with only 14" in innards? OR will a 14" work on a mattress with 15" innards? I’m a little worried that if I go that route the cover would compress the latex and I’d loose the plushness of the top layer. Thanks for any help provided.

Hi michtx.

Good question. The 15" cover will work for the 14" mattress, although it may have some slight wiggle room. A 14" over 15" would be a bit more problematic as you’d be sort of shoving everything to fit and some layer would get compressed and this would probably “firm up” the feel of your mattress with the tension.

I’d say go for 15" cover of 14" so you have the flexibility you need without compromising the feel of your bed.

Thank you. I was wondering if pushing 15" of material would cause the mattress to feel firmer. I decided to try different mattress configurations before ordering the cover that way I will have the correct size.
