What Slats To Get For My Mattress?

Hello,

I’ve used this forum in the past, and had some great sleep. The only issue is I couldn’t sleep properly whenever I went away, always missed my bed!

I purchased the Ultimate Dreams mattress from dreamfoam bedding (when it had the 2.35lb polyfoam support layer), and I paired it with the Ikea Malm. I also purchased slats from Ikea, and they worked wonderfully, but sadly I can’t find the same slats anymore.

I am getting another Mattress, and have chosen a pure talalay latex mattress. I received an excellent price on a queen size mattress from Ommage Sleep with these specs. (quite excited about it)

Mattress is made from 100% Talalay Latex. Cover is made of certified natural Tencel fabric
6" 36ILD Firm Bottom
2" 24ILD Medium Firmness layer
2" 19ild Plush Comfort Layer

The bed that I am thinking about going with is the Ikea Hemnes

The only slats that I see are the Ikea Luroy

and the Ikea Lonset

Does anybody know if they are any good? Or are there slats that people can recommend to go with this bed? Are slats universal, like will a queen fit a queen? I’m not looking for a foundation, because I do not want a bed that is too high.

Thanks!

Hi bkim,

A common complaint for people who frequently travel. At least I hope you were able to bring your pillow along.

The Ommage mattress you chose does use good quality materials. Both of the slat networks you mentioned will work with an all-latex mattress. A forum member went to IKEA and measured the distance between the slats and it was less than the 3" recommended for all-latex mattresses. These are bowed slat systems, so they will flex and slightly change the feel of your mattress. Additionally, over time you’d want to monitor these slats to make sure that they do not flex too much and become concave and allow for mattress sagging.

With the lips on the inside of the side rails and the head-to-toe center beam of the Hemnes bed set, you could procure a different slat network or even make your own, should you desire a flat slat network or slats that are more substantial. There are quite a few online options, and a quick online search for bed support slats or slat inserts for platform beds will reveal slat network offerings available from companies like Ashley, amazon and Wal-Mart. The dimensions of the IKEA slat networks are 59-7/8" x 79-1/2" for the Luroy and 60-1/4" x 79-1/2" for the Lonset, so anything you might be considering as a replacement should be around those dimensions.

I hope that information is helpful.
